I think that the films only started to go downhill from TLK. I actually enjoyed watching Optimus' character arc across these film, he was the most grounded he's ever been to me.

TLK is quite possibly the worst movie ever made, it is so fundamentally nonfunctional as a film.

Optimus had no character arc in the movies. He was wildly inconsistent among all five.

Optimus was the Optimus everyone knows up to RotF, and despite the Decepticons continuously taking the lead in the war he remained steadfast and level-headed. DotM was the film that showed that the great leader wan't so perfect and infallible; he trusted Sentinel Prime - a mistake which nearly caused humanity to go extinct and had irreversible consequence to Autobot-Human relations. Come AoE he wasn't the confident leader he once was and seemed depressed as well as angry after being betrayed and hunted by those he protected and died for, plus having his friends die. After waging war for so long he was losing faith in fighting for those he would ordinarily protect. Optimus Prime would never hesitate or doubt himself, which is why the talk with Cade where Cade says that Optimus needs to have faith was important, as it made him regain his sense and reaffirm all the qualities that made him the person that others respect and look up to. It's easy for someone to lose sense of who they are when going through he he went through which was being the leader of an army fighting a very long war.

Having him go through this makes him the most human he's ever been, at least to me. Just because you couldn't see what was happening that doesn't mean there wasn't any character development. You said that he was being inconsistent without even asking why, because it's so easy to dismiss the movies as bad.

Optimus and Bumblebee must go back to the future with the help of Optimus's descendant in the past who is trying to go back to the further future whilst preventing Megatron's descendant from destroying the future.

    How is that confusing? /s

In my opinion this is too early

It could happen, but let's not hope that

DOTM was the high point for me. AOE and TLK felt more like money grabs, even as I can acknowledge there was individual parts I did enjoy. My original point still stands though, Bumblebee the movie in many ways recaptured the awe that 2007 was able to do. Building on that while mixing in the better elements from the Bay films is the way to go.

Why in the slaggin\' hell would they even consider doing a Beast Wars film OVER a Bumblebee follow-up?

I love Beast Wars as much as any TF fan, but c\'mon... Paramount is ASKING for general audiences to be confused as scrap.

Not to mention, the TF brand has been aiming towards unification over the past few years. It wouldn\'t make sense for Hasbro or Takara to approve a Beast Wars project right now.

You joke, but I want to see this.
Hell, they can just make it an animated movie.
    Straight to DVD or Netflix.
    No humans in sight.

Just Movie Bots and Cons vs Unicron.

NOT a bad idea. Considering many people's dislike to the nascient CGI of the original series, I recently thought it would be great if they were willing to redo the visuals. It would totally update the show for a new generation and invigorate the series and the toyline.

Who the hell is "Dwyane Johnstone"? "Ratbait"?? "Cheetara"?? "Jon Pearlman"?! "Tupac" (Shakur)?! How the fuck are you gonna do that? Is this a "while-high" post?!

    THAT'S...a great start.

Yep. Paramount has brain-dead ******s working for it, so, yes, anything they put out is going to be low-quality and aiming for the lowest common denominator. So, I and other Beast Wars fans will be unhappy that they turned Beast Wars into...I dunno...Avatar or something ******ed like that.

    What of it?

Really?? Really? A homicidal blood-(oil-?) thirsty barbarian? Have you ever seen the original Optimus Prime in the animated series or comics? "character arc"! That's a good one!

I have no idea what you're talking about.

    Then again, neither do you.

Oh gods. No. Why don't we bring in Ruin Johnson to helm it?

The "Bumblebee Universe" ? Is that really a thing ? We got one half ass prequel to Bayverse that was cleverly disguised as a fake reboot halfway through production. Should a Bumblebee universe even exist ? I call it all Bayverse and I put that on a young Simmons. Nuff said..

i think the franchise started to go downhill after Age of Extinction. I think after that movie is when most general audience were like, “Aight! This franchise isn’t tricking me anymore”

Confused? Nobody even went to go see the last two films... they both didn’t meet expectations.

But Beast Wars won’t do well without a tent pole to promote it... Paramount needs a main line entry featuring Optimus and other recognizable characters (plus enticing human characters ala the Marvel cast) to bring people back to the franchise. AoE was the last film to hit a billion dollars, and considering that will have come out EIGHT years before this new film, I think it’ll be long enough where people will be interested in seeing a new entry. But it has to have a familiar or recognizable cast, have a simple plot, and a well cut trailer. I think TF6 would be way too convoluted to try and start a resurgence with the brand again, but I do think it should stay in the same movie universe to maintain interest... so if I were them, I would place Bumblebee in the Bayverse (considering Lorenzo never decided on whether it was a reboot or not) and make a sequel to it (prequel to TF07) with the Autobot cast from the 2007 movie in those designs, and take the Decepticons from BB’s opening (keep those designs) as the villains and have “Gigastorm” be the substitute leader since Megatron is trapped in ice. Spend the money to hire popular Marvel actors (they’re what’s hot right now, not Mark Wahlberg and no-name actors), and by the end of the film, have Gigastorm be destroyed, Decepticons retreat (but keep Soundwave in orbit to search for Megatron), and have the Autobots go after them but leave Bumblebee to watch after Earth... that way everything ties together.

The reason these movies made billions of dollars was due to the general public, and without catering to them and giving them something they recognize as enjoying, future spin-offs and reboots will never be successful. Right now Paramount’s number one focus should be reigniting interest in the franchise to the GP. After a successful restart, I would say a stand alone Beast Wars film would work if it’s presented as them being ancestors to the Autobots and Decepticons, and Cybertron looked like pre-historic Earth or something like that... whatever the story, it should be presented as a one-off but connected to the other films. If it does well, then they can dive deeper into the story...

    My suggested timeline:
    • July 2022 - TransFormers: Bumblebee 2 (subtitle should have Bumblebee in it and a play on the number two without being on the nose... can’t think of one off the top of my head)
    • July 2023 - Beast Wars (TransFormers spin-off)
    • July 2024 - TransFormers 6 (take place after TLK, but have the plot continue from BB2 dealing with whatever the objective would be in that film and having it return. Also wrap up the Unicron storyline, so somehow tie it to BB2... kill most of the Autobot cast from TLK and introduce new popular G1 characters that haven’t been featured in the films yet [Prowl, Hound, Mirage, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Kup, Springer, etc.], and give them BB designs. Hire different popular Marvel actors due to the time jump. Take heavy inspiration from the 1986 animated film)
    • July 2025 - TransFormers: The Animated Movie (base it heavily on the War Within comics but place it in the Bayverse as a prequel to Bumblebee... give the Fallen his Revenge of the Fallen design, and market it as his origin story along with Optimus and Megatron’s)
    • July 2026 - TransFormers 7 (continue with Prime, Bumblebee, Prowl, Mirage, and Kup and have them deal with not only the Decepticons, but The Vok as well)
    • July 2027 - Beast Wars: Metals (first movie should only focus on the Maximals and Predacons’ battle over Energon on pre-historic techno-organic Cybertron, but Metals should see the introduction of The Vok, and somehow flip things so the quantum surge happens first to give them their TransMetal bodies, but this would be what eliminated organic life on Cybertron and completely metallicize everything. Would act as the origin story to The Vok from TF7)
    • July 2028 - TransFormers 8 (no idea what the plot would be about, but this would be the first opportunity to move the series in a new direction since all spin-offs would be done by now)
    • July 2030 - TransFormers 9 (return to your regular scheduled program of a new main line movie coming out every other year. A direct sequel to TF8, and possibly the final film in the Bayverse)
    • July 2032 - TransFormers Reboot (completely all new designs, different Autobot and human casts, plot, and origin story)

So yeah, I would focus on a main line story every other year and do spin offs during the years between, exactly how Star Wars was doing their films... Paramount would hire different teams to work on them, so there would be no rush to get everything done in only a year. Hey, if Marvel can put out 3 movies a year, Paramount can put out 1 TF film me thinks

I think maximas and predacon characters are more recognizable than autobot and decpticon characters. This is because most cars look the same to me, but I can easily tell the difference between a cheetah and a gorilla.

I’m curious to see how they’ll make Beast Wars work in a movie.
A car turning into a huge robot, okay I get it.

But your average rat or spider turning into a huge robot, what the hell!?! Lol

I’m down to see the film on opening weekend, but I really think that 2022 movie is going to be Bumblebee 2

Y'know...the more I think about this, the fact that Paramount has doubled up these big announcements at this particular time...the more I have to wonder if this isn't just Paramount trying to drum up more investor hype. Like that whole "Guess what, we're gonna get Thor back for Star Trek 4!" business that ended up never going anywhere (also, they've had one or two directors attached to ST4, not counting whatever Tarantino was planning on doing, and those kinda fell through too).

Granted, "Beast Wars" on its own probably wouldn't mean anything to investors, but the fact that Paramount is finally planning to branch the film franchise out into other directions after having finally exhausted the same old formula might.

Not entirely. That's where the Bayverse seemed to be headed anyway. I can see the Autobots (and humans) dealing with Unicron by blowing up the planet :D .

I suppose the final showdown (spoiler: Optimus is dead (again)) will be Megatron/Galvatron/Megatron/Galva- (oh, and he's got a new boss, this time)... vs some French Autobot.

    Till All Are In Pieces.

(or perhaps we simply have the Bringer of Chaos waking up from his nap and doing some stretches....).
