I get what you mean about G1 ratchet and ironhide being tough to crack. Personally I think the siege ones are just shy of perfect. Fortunately there was an upgrade kit from DSA that fixed the feet on those two (making them less visible in vehicle mode by adding a toe swivel) but the group sadly went defunct before they could do one for crosshairs

To be honest I don't how tough it is to tackle pretty simple looking robot modes and vehicles that both Ironhide and Ratchet have going. I mean it shouldn't be hard to give us blocky robots out of blocky alt modes especially since ER has shown it's possible with guys like Grapple and Hoist.

Personally, I love Siege Ironhide and Ratchet, bur I can understand why other people aren't as fond of them. As for why G1 Ironhide and Ratchet are such a tough nut to crack..... it probably has something to do with the fact that their G1 vehicle modes are alone in the original 1984 assortment, in that they weren't designed to transform into robots at at all:

This is probably why even masterpiece scaled toys (both official and third party) have had a hell of a time attempting to turn that blocky-ass van into a robot that resembles the Sunbow character model. Of all the initial sunbow character models, Ironhide/Ratchet are without a doubt the biggest cheats - and that is completely understandable given their source material.

but the Masterpieces came out looking soooo.... weird.? I guess? I don't know how to describe it, they just looked really "off". that's what got me thinking.

It may be, that in trying to match the proportions of the animation model, there's perhaps too much cheating going on with the chest "shrinking"~ I thought that was why the Universe mold used the back end of the vehicle.

I've often pined for a Voyager Ratchet based on a 'box' style ambulance:
    Ambulance-Diversion-is-Medical-Negligence-.jpeg
where you'd have a deluxe-ish robot mode made from the cab with the legs going underneath and the box portion could open up into a repair bay drawing inspiration from the diaclone sled.

Edit: @TheSuperion kind of hit on what I was getting at, and why I think something in this style might solve some of the issues.

I didn't see him at all.
I'm dead certain my local Walgreens still has those 3 Wreck-Gars though.

I still say these upgrades did a lot to help the siege ironhide and ratchet in vehicle mode, and if hasbro does sunbow based earth mode versions based on the siege versions (like how megatron is based on his siege mold) then hopefully they incorporate something like these feet so that it doesn't look like feet are hanging off the back of the truck

That helps him a lot. The exposed biceps REALLY bug me though (it's especially bad on ironside from the top view where it's just like "here are my arms", Ratchet's unified color scheme at least blends the shoulders in), but I assume if an Earthrise release ends up being a remold, that would be something they'd address.

Yea, that's the only other thing that really bugs me. They could probably remold the bumper and add folding panels in the legs to fill in some of the bicep area (assuming an earthmode would be a remold like megatron and not a new mold like smokescreen)

The Siege molds did a lot to give out the Sunbow designs for the two even if they got Cybertronian modes so I can't see why they couldn't find a way to make molds that transform similar from them. No one said they need to be exactly like the sunbow models and transformation schemes so if they need to pull a few tricks to give them solid looking robot and vehicle modes then do so. With how WFC's going al out on transformation tricks I can't see how doing Earth modes for those two would be hard.

Oh I agree, but I also don't think they necessarily need to be entirely new molds to accomplish earth mode vehicles. The siege ones are already fairly close, a new bumper, rotating toes like the dsa upgrades and a few folding panels to cover the biceps is all they really need to be convincing as earth modes.

That's a good point too. Either method can work well for Ratchet and Ironhide.

Yea, hypothetically they could turn out like ER Prime (reusing a few parts from the siege versions, but in a way that it might as well be entirely new), like ER Megatron (remold that works mostly the same) or like ER Smokescreen (new mold). I'm curious to see which way they go, if they do them at all

Them pulling an ER Optimus on them would be a logical direction to go and I think it's only a matter of time because Hasbro knows very well on how popular they are.

I want to note something. The “TRA GEN Project” title has been used on only 2 things in the past, if I recall correctly.

    1. The dollar store authentics figures. (TRA GEN Project Storm)

    2. Ectotron. (TRA GEN Project Mullet)

This thing could be any thing but I thought I would just point that out.

    Probably not.

The codenames don't seem to relate to the final product, unfortunately. Otherwise I'd guess Project Future to be a Delorean crossover figure, following up Ectotron.
