Dunno if anyone else has seen this yet, but Marvel have announced a new Death's Head series pencilled by Kei Zama, written by Tini Howard with a cover by Nick Roche.

Popping it into news as well as the comics section, mods please delete if not appropriate here.

Aside from Senior, I can't think of anyone better to draw this!

    Awesome, yes?

Really excited for this. Death's Head always seemed cool, but I never had the time to go back and figure out what stories he was in. Zama and Roche are some of the best in the business; not familiar with Howard's work, but reception seems positive. Sobreiro's colors look great, too.

There's also a few other stories he was in that are more recent. Kieron Gillen did some great character work with him in SWORD.

Kei Zama working on Deaths Head? Noice! This might be the first Marvel book I check out in a few years, just please let it be self contained!

I am cautiously optimistic. The last time he was used on S.W.O.R.D. he was OK, but he didn't do much. I just wish they simply re-hired Furman to write for him.

    My boy.

The art here is pretty great, given that it's Kei's artwork that's not surprising, but given that it's modern Marvel Comics I wouldn't be shocked if the writing was mediocre at best or awful at worst.

It\'s beautiful, and will be gone in six issues. I\'ll still buy the hell out of it.

The art is a really good fit! It captures the grimy chaos of the Geoff Senior years!

So, technically, Death's Head hasn't really been gone. He turned up as a character in Marvel several times in the last decade. I liked that in those appearances, they kept him at TF scale (around 30ft tall). :D

I know that it reduces his ability to interact more broadly, but to me it always felt like a firm acknowledgment of his roots in Transformers... and also nice to see aliens in Marvel not always adhering to the same old sizes. I'm assuming he'll be down to a moderate 7 feet tall in this series?

Also, quick survey... what's the definitive Death's Head look?

I've always considered Death's Head's original costume to be the best. I never liked his updated look in his original solo series. It was too clean, too fancy... for me it was all about that dirty green flak vest, and those big stompy tube-boots!

Hmm, not sure if excited or worried. On one hand, it's not IDW. On the other, it's Marvel. At least Mark Waid isn't writing it.

I like both looks, but I think the redux version is my preference (maybe minus the impractical boot spikes, yes?) but possibly because it was the look used in The Body in Question and it looked damn fine in the trench coat for his one-issue appearance in Death’s Head II.

That’s not to say I’m not open to another take on the character, so long as that beautiful mug remains the same.

This looks freaking awesome. Kei Zama's art was one of the things I regretted not seeing more of once I dropped the IDW books post-crossover crapfest, but she absolutely deserves this.

And, in terms of looks, I tend to prefer his original look, since that was his design in the UK TF comics. Since the 4-inch figure was based on his later design, I hope that if we ever get a Marvel Legend (damn it Hasbro just do it already!) it will be his older costume.

yeah his original look will always be the definitive look for me but i'm also a big fan of the dhII look when he took over minion after minion absorbed deathsheads personality and deathshead out of all the warriors absorbed become the dominating personality , i just loved that whole storyline

That's what my inside voice is screaming right now. :lol

Man I don’t know her first issue of Belit sucked hard, That’s some shiittty writing right there. Zama is going have to do a lot of heavily lifting for this book.

You’re gonna wish he was writing it once you start reading Howard’s 3rd grade dialogue and back of a cereal box story construction.
