All 80's cartoons were based on selling toys that was there draw and I understand Bay doing bots that resembled to be more alien life forms than humanoid.

But it wouldn't have hurt to have made them a little more simpler to robots as to what the were. Here's a perfect example in this toy from the movie I understand this is meant for adult collectors but if it was made for kids how would they be able to play with it or not have a difficult time transforming it.

And your right this is meant for different fans as collectors no disrespect to them either.

I'm old school and maybe I prefer the blocky versions of robots from my childhood than some that I might identify as unorthodox. And I do own maybe 3 or so from the movies.

The funny thing here is Toyworld has only ever made a G1 devestator , so this segment of the thread makes little to no sense to me.

As to your get rich statement, Hasbro and paramount didn’t make it, a designer did. And that guy has already gotten paid for it and that’s what he agreed to. It’s like drawing your own Batman picture and selling it, Your not becoming rich off of that artists work, and you aren’t stealing it. Most third parties are side gigs, they always have other main jobs making who knows what (rulers, office supplies, other toys) and the ones making it are generally also fans.

At least they colored it in a little bit, which makes it look a lot better.  Still looks like a mess, but a more cohesive mess.  I\'m surprised that they didn\'t have another SS bot next to it for size comparison.  That would\'ve been a good thing to do.

Of course it's a mess, it's RotF Devastator. That's just screen accuracy. I don't know what Toyworld Devastator has to do with anything, though, since it's a completely different character.

Nah, this is all nonsense. G1 Devastator would work just fine in a film, as would all the other G1 designs, with a bit of tweaking. This was always true and was proven true in Bumblebee, so you can drop the 10+ year old "it wouldn't work in live action so that's why all the movie Decepticons are abstract junk sculptures with insect faces blasting spittle everywhere" talking point. It was ridiculous then and demonstrably false now. I like the movie designs for what they are and collect the Studio Series and the MPM stuff but this "they had to do it for live action" thing is laughable.

Devastator wasn't in Bumblebee, far as I can tell?

He’s saying Bumblebee showed G1 designs work in a film, so G1 devy would fit just fine into a movie

I think it’s worth noting and quite hilarious that 7/8 of the figures on display here are transformed incorrectly.

I mean, there could be a g1ish devy who followed something like hulkie or gravity builder's non-partsforming combination, but it'd still have to be crouched/crawling

There’s no reason it would have to be crawling or hunched over. Unless we are assuming that transformers Like us humans hated themselves and sat in class for 10+ years with an arched back.

Yeah don’t really get the whole “he has to be hunched” thing. I’d be willing to bet that if paramount runs with the Knightverse we’ll get a big straight-backed green and purple devastator at some point.

And none of you go telling me that’s unrealistic, green and purple construction vehicles exist, I SEEN EM!!! And scifi movies mean we get to ignore stupid things that make real life boring like the square-cube law (see godzilla).

Because weight increases with size at a rate far greater than the strength. If g1 devastator actually managed to somehow stand up, he'd pretty quickly fall over

These are machines, not fleshy creatures. There’s a reason we don’t see cranes and large machines hunched over. They can easily stand up straight. Besides, there’s a thing called “fiction”, should read up on it. I hear a lot of this forum is about it.

See my above post. The Bayverse featured magic flying metal, mass shifting, dinobots that stood upright and were nearly as tall as devastator. There’s a reason it’s called science FICTION.

For what it’s worth his physics do (does? I dislike grammar) check out, something that size, metal or no, would probably have to be quadrupedal to support its own weight IN REALITY. Luckily these are films with robots made of CGI and or magic space metal.

Cranes don't have to walk about, or mimic the range of movement of organic creatures- plus, they have a large base so as to not fall over.
