I don't have either but I don't think they're MP scale. I think rioter's more voyager classics/chug scale. And unless I was looking at the wrong figure I think IF ultimate commander may be legends size.

Neither are masterpiece scale. Ultimate Commander is legends scale, about 4-5 inches depending on the mode and Rioter Despotron is CHUG scale, 7 inches I believe (don't have the figure).

For my MP scale I have the MakeToys Despotron. it looks the part for me. I was gonna get the Takara MP Megatron but I don't like the look and the $200 price tag didn't help me.

I have both Striker Manus (prime) and Rioter Despotron (megs) as well and they're fun and well made figures.

I dont have any first hand experience with IF figures.

If you're looking for a nice third party masterpiece make toys actually does have a mp style version of despotron who is their megatron.. though rioter is not mp he is still an amazing figure and striker manus is their Optimus to go with rioter and their new cross dimension line .. I would definitely recommend the re master despotron if mp is your goal

    MakeToys MTRM-08 DESPOTRON

Although there is often much debate about what is and is not MP in the realm of 3P, neither are really MP by even the loosest of criteria.

Are you familiar with Hasbro's current size categories? Supreme Commander is meant to scale with Legends-class figures. I've heard nothing but good about IF, but I'm not particularly interested in starting a new collection in a tiny scale, so I can't really comment on this one.

Rioter Despotron I do have, and it's fantastic. Great articulation, aggressive design, solid all-around toy. He's a good deal shorter than the Hasbro/Takara MP Optimus, though. He's closer to Voyager-sized, or a head and a half taller than the MP cars.

As others have said, both of those aren't "MP."

One is a small (but amazing) legends sized figure, and the other is an original take on Megatron (in voyager/CHUG Scale).

If you want MP IDW, you can check out G-Creation's new line up (starting with their GDW Prime).

If you're into IDW large chug/voyager scaled figures, there is always MMC's amazing stuff.

If you're strictly after 198X/MP; Takara, FansToys, XTB and BadCube have your backs.

I assume he wasn't using the word masterpiece in the traditional sense maybe? Cause I own both those figures and Rioter is definitely the better of the two overall but they're both so different and have such different prices I'm not sure why someone would be choosing between them in the first place.

Yeah sorry I meant 3rd party in general and not masterpiece my bad:banghead:  and I don't want to spend much and I really like how they both look and I was unsure between the two so I asked here. And I'm really not looking into something specific just a good figure to mess with. Thanks:)  (any figure you might recommend besides these two are also welcome).

Rioter Despotron is awesome. Like, really awesome. Articulation is fantastic and, while it may not be for everyone, the space handgun is a pretty neat alt mode. Plus, he holds a dark Energon sword in his fusion cannon, which is just really cool looking when you have him unsheathing it. Maketoys Striker Manus is also pretty good, though the Nemesis repaint is looking to be even better. Check out MMC's Reformatted line as well. Lots of fantastic figures in there.

If you don't care about size, and want some pretty good bang/buck; take a look at IronFactory's stuff :)

Well Rioter is highly posable, very fun to handle and super well made. Some minor things you need to be aware of while transforming him but nothing really complicated.

UltComm is one of the best armor gimmick figures I own now but due to his nature and size is certainly a far less posable toy. He's more of a fun display piece and thing to assemble and disassemble between modes. People have had varying levels of enjoyment with him so if you wanna get a feel for 3ps at their best Rioter is the smarter choice for that. UltComm is more of a specialized interest I'd say.

Rioter Despotron is not my preference (subjective details i.e. color, facesculpt), but objectively speaking I completely agree that it's an awesome figure to mess around with for its transformation, articulation/poseability, plastic quality, Maketoys customer service support, quality to dollar wise its great.

Some of the IF stuff is not cheap but again, you get great detail for its size, charm and quality for the money invested into them. You can't really go wrong on IF Ultimate Commander.

Based off your choices may want to look into Maketoys Stiker Manus (Optimus) he was very well received and looks awesome (I actually don't own him), or Maketoys Striker Noir (Nemesis Prime with weapon pack, which I have on pre-ordered). If you like the look for Rioter you will probably like him too based off all the reviews.

I do own IF Supreme Commander and am happy with him but he is a bit spendy especially if you can only get him without the extra figure that was included as a preorder bonus.

    Good luck.

Not only are neither Masterpiece, they're also very different from one another. If you're looking for a bot to handle a lot and pose and such, StrikerManus/RioterDespotron could be a solid choice. IF's Stormbringer Optimus is one of IF's weaker offerings imho. If you're looking for a good Optimus Prime figure and want Masterpiece scale or larger, look at ToyWorld's Primorion or GCreation GDW-01 Ultra Maxmas, both recently released and two different styles of OP.
But the best thing you can do is watch some YouTube video reviews to see what a figure is all about before buying it.

I think it depends on what else you want to collect. Ultimate Commander goes better with a legends collection while Rioter Despotron goes better with CHUG. IMO, Rioter is the ultimate CHUG scale Megatron. He is highly posable, has a fun transformation, comes with a ton of accessories, and looks great.

Thanks everyone, and after seeing some video reviews I'm gonna end up going for Rioter Despotron because he looks so cool and it fits with my collection. So thanks everyone:thumb :D
