I have had a rear projection 50 in for many years, it did 1080i over component, but it was before HDMI.

Well the green gun just went out, so now everything is purple. So now I want to replace it.

After much measuring and looking, I am going with a 55 in size.

I am just not sure what brands I should look at or anything specific.

Beyond LCD with LED back light and at least 120 hrs refresh.

Also my budget is about $1000 for the set, which needs to include a stand as well.

    Any ideas?

Well, I've got a Sony Bravia LED, and that baby gives beautiful pictures on all my games and blu ray movies. Though its only 46' and it cost me $1200. Panasonic make good sets too.

Why do you say that? I'm also looking to upgrade.

I'm wanting a 42". I've always bought Vizio and they've been very good for me.
