Quite enjoyed the first issue, felt like Act I of an episode... plot moving but quite a bit of recap for people without an encyclopedic knowledge of the show and SLG comic. Gives people the info they need at the moment with promises of more to come.

May it be successful enough to keep going and going well, but not so successful that the Mouse fully turns their eye towards it.

Yeah I need to go read up. Thought I remembered most of what happened only to find out in issue #1 that I forgot way more.

Issue 1 was great. It was exactly what I expected (and basically what was needed); basically a recap but still moving some plotlines forward.
Great to see Goliath and Elisa finally get to the point where we knew they were going to end up. No more dancing around their own fears, no more double dates or back and forths, just the two of them cemented in a relationship and it'll be fun how they go from here. We see the trio start to go their own ways, two in their own relationships with Lex obviously feeling left out. We get some Coldstone/Coldfire love; Coldstone being as dour as usual and Coldfire practically committing arson in an effort to end the violence. We see an impending birth in the Labyrinth (along with the new mutates introduced in the SLG run) and an impending potential kidnapping orchestrated by one of our big bads.
    Waiting for issue #2!

Greg will probably finally pull the trigger on
Lexington realizing he’s gay. I mean in this day and age it shouldn’t be that big a problem.

Well, yeah, I noticed right away when reading that issue but it was never touched on and could've easily been dismissed as a playful little artistic touch, considering the pair didn't seem to age at all in 20+ years. But all of a sudden she's thrown into issue 2 and the accent is pretty unmistakable.

You can't base the 100K sales off the popularity of the brand if the majority of the sales are based on people buying multiple variant covers.

But… if it was an unpopular property, no one would have bought those variants.

We know variants artificially inflate sales numbers (and this series has a lot of variants!) but clearly Dynamite did something that got retailers excited about the book. Excited enough to order lots of copies (even if it’s just to get variants).

It’s a weird thing to point out. Retailers don’t chase after variant covers if they think they can’t sell them. Clearly something made them think they could.

some variants are ratio variants meaning you have to order a certain amount of the regular cover just to get the "special" variant thus artificially inflating the sales numbers. some retailers (my LCS being one) will not order copies he knows he cant sell just to get a certain variant. alot of the regular variants also have their own diamond ordering code and some retailers (my LCS being one) will not order unless it is requested by a customer months in advance. Variants are a bubble that's im surprised hasn't burst yet. but as long as people keep buying them they will keep making them. Dynamite comics is the biggest offender when it comes to variants.

Im not denying the brand isn't popular but alot of that 100k sales number is based on variants. I wonder how high that number would be if they only did 1 cover....hell even 3 equal ratio covers

I think it's worth pointing out that Dynamite's Darkwing Duck also has several variant covers, but didn't secure more than 109,000 orders... as opposed to Gargoyles' almost 180,000.
