It does my heart good to see some new G1 animation, even if it isn't actual G1.

Umm, just because it uses G1 style for the retelling of the Great War doesn\'t mean this is a direct continuation of G1. I mean, it cannot even be that because the year 2006 has come already (this show sure as hell does not take place in the 90ies) and Megatron is not Galvatron and Optimus is still alive.
Animated used the G1 style for the \"old war videos\" too but that does not mean it is a continuation of that show. It\'s more like how humans drew the TFs for a children\'s book, really.
I do like the idea of Megatron making peace with the Autobots, Cyberverse did something similar too eventually.
First drone alt mode? I always thought that\'s what one of the Perceptor minicons from Armada was, the one with the turbines.

Ummmm ... Spike. Witwicky. Elita-1. "DECADES in the making." Yeah I'm thinking this promo is VERY much saying it's G1 continuity.

Branch continuity then. Acknowledging only part of what came before.

Do you mean the Energon version of Perceptor? Armada Grindor, the skateboard, seems to have jets or rockets on the rear end but I think you mean Energon Grindor with the two fan turbines on the side.

As for what that alt-mode is, considering it's Grindor, I'd say he's a futuristic hoverboard. Kicker rides him like one in the anime but he also rides the Energon Saber like that too so it's not as compelling as evidence, but still, it's Grindor, the ex-skateboard.

Yep, I too think that it is a branch continuity. Something like IDW, which definetly can't be called a sequel to G1 cartoon yet is considered a G1-based continuity

How are they gonna explain all the characters looking different if this is allegedly a G1 Sequel series? And Skywarp, that too? Also are we just ignoring The Transformers The Movie and Season 3 and The Rebirth and ACK THIS IS FUCKING CONFUSING--

G1 was always a multi-continuity project (Marvel and the cartoon immediately contradicted themselves). Still, it’s probably the first G1-based animated series since the Beast era. *1990s nü-metal/skate punk playing*

The same way BW posits itself as a sequel to some version of G1 despite not actually lining up with either the comic or show. or how Animated uses G1 footage as in-universe propaganda. It's just references/call-backs.

I saw at least two Seekers (Thundercracker and I think Skywarp or Acid Storm in the Trailerj.......but so far no sign of Starscream........odds are he’ll be a unstable element........

It would be interesting if we get say Straxus, Shockwave, Skorponok, Overlord, Deathsaurus, Devil Z, Violin Jaeger, Black Zarack, or even Dreadwing in charge in a Decepticon Army in Exile

Less that it is a sequel series and more that it’ll use G1 graphics as a reference like the first episode of Animated did. I honestly don’t mind; the vast majority of my favorite TF stories take place in a post-war setting, or at least post the point in the war that Megs and Optimus are the major players in their respective factions.

In what way does this not support the G1 continuity? You can't include Rebirth unless it in itself is a splinter continuity. Which would be fine. But the direct G1 cartoon continuity does end with Megatron being back to his old appearance and Optimus back and those 2 standing side by side as co-leaders.
I say this because you cannot discount the Japanese G1 cartoons and the later manga/story pages from the continuity. A continuity which doesn't end with the 1 episode of Zone. In fact, Japan took steps beyond Operation Combination to make G2 a direct link continuity from G1. There was a reason the war restarted and why Megatron turned into the green tank.
So taking all of that in line (which I admit is extremely bloated and convoluted) I see no reason why this concept couldn't be a straight continuity continuation. That said, I see no reason it couldn't be a splinter continuity as well. Maybe the G2 line splintered off and this was a different lineage from that point. We won't know exactly how it's played off until we watch the show.
Regardless, it's going to be an interesting take. One I am excited to see how it goes. Based on the character designs I was half expecting this to be a continuation of the Prime/RID continuity but I am glad to see a fresh take.
Here's hoping for more new characters and maybe a few unique holdovers from the IDWverse or something along those lines.

Optimus returned from the dead in G1. Galvatron was reborn as Megatron in various G1 continuities, including Alignment (branch off of Marvel comic) and the Japanese cartoon/manga continuity, a branch off of the G1 cartoon. So the existence of Megs, Optimus, and Bumblebee don't necessarily conflict with all branches of G1.

Why did this need to be a G1 offshoot? Couldn't it have just been its own continuity?

Of course, I could be wrong, and the G1 animation is just an homage like it was in Animated. Which honestly is as it should be. Not everything needs to be linked back to G1.

Remember, we've also seen a trailer where the kids are holding something that looks a lot like a G1 Marvel comic. Which of course has a different continuity from the G1 cartoon.

It seems like this is a world where our real-world Transformers media exists as media. So I suspect it's pulling a move where the G1 cartoon and comic are inaccurate depictions of what "really happened." Which means it's effectively a new continuity, just one where any portion of G1 that it wants to have as backstory can be true.

....there is 0 chance they actually intend for g1 to be the prequel to this series. There was a nebulous period they are calling "the war" and it is represented as g1 animation as fan service. If they ever try to claim this as a sequel to g1, it will be like how they dubiously were calling Bumblebee a prequel to 2007. G1 is a massive mess that no serious storyteller would tie their cart to.

Honestly, this series feels like it\'s set in the alligned universe with how it uses Soundwave and Megatron.

Transformers: the most head-canoned franchise of all time. :lol  Personally I like when they sprinkle vague things like this in to let people interpret as they wish. You can say it's a sequel if you want to, you can say it's an easter egg, you can (as I would probably) say it's just a generic "there was a war in the past and this is after that" signpost, etc. It's fun. And it's not written in stone, I'm sure.

    Also,
I've known people who are emotionally tied to Twitch, too. :lol
