All of the above are merely variables. What designates a figure as a Masterpiece is simply in the marketing.

TakaraTomy just has to feel that the overall package (size, detail, engineering, materials, paint, etc.) stack up against other Japanese collectible figures in that $100+ range, and they can go and slap that MP label on anything they damned well please.

I think you're misunderstanding which side of this argument I fall on. I'm simply saying I understand Hicks_royel's complaint. I like MPs just fine at the size they are.

    :lol

Yeah, I am probably one of the larger Voltron fans on this site, I think, & I passed on the Matty Colletor Voltron (not that I had the money for it anyway). Yeah, it's 2 feet tall, but it is less detailed, less accurate & less posable than my MP Voltron. Yes, the pilots fit inside, but that & the poorly engineered springloaded, not really "one touch transformations" mean that Red Lion can't be screen accurate (the forward section is supposed to rotate 90 degrees at the elbow, but it can't in the MC one) & Optibotimus' review proved my fear that the spring-loaded gimmick 1) doesn't work as advertised (again, not "One Touch") & 2) comes loose annoyingly frequently.

& to top it all off, to get all 5 Lions & pilots, I think it totals $260 or so, w/ components taking the full year to all be released/ shipped (I think they're spaced out every 2 months)... For a less accurate, less posable "Collectable".

Bigger is not always better indeed.

I'm liking it less with every new picture. It's just off for some reason.

The key activating all the gimmicks was clearly just for show. And I don't understand the looseness you're talking about. The MP Voltron (which I have) looks good because of the chrome, but really, other than looking good, it doesn't do anything. Not a single gimmick on that thing. No firing heads, no missiles, no cockpits, no pilots, nothing. How lazy is that? Still, I will enjoy both the MC and MP versions equally for different reasons.

Oh, and this MP Soundwave looks perfectly fine to me.

There is also a big ass price difference. My MP Voltron new years ago when it can out was $135. This POS Matty one is somewhere over $300 after shipping.

The MP one doesn't need gimmicks. It is show acurate, posable, dicast metal and really just a quality toy.

The only good things about the Matty Voltron is the Size and the figures look great. And the size isn't that big of a deal. I already have the 21" Trendmasters Voltron that came out 10 years ago or so.

Back on MP Soundwave, we need more pics beside these prototype pics. Lets get some color pics and Buzzsaw pics.

I'm sorry, I'm seeing the diaper look that the rendered version seemed to have going. Those legs need to be further up into the waist, and they should be paneled on all sides to allow articulation. Being so low like that is a big factor for whether I will buy this. It just looks wrong.

The MC is probably produced in smaller numbers.

But the legs kinda flop around and the lion legs are brittle and sometimes break.

And it looks fun and playable.

Cool! The crotch area is looking much better and cleaner than I remember the redesign having been at first blush. I'm digging the thigh swivels too. Alt mode is a little chunky for my liking but this guy will be in bot mode 90% of the time anyway so it's more than acceptable to me. Really am excited for this one!

To keep this post on topic, at least some of those pics were posted here... Likely by the designer himself.

The legs pop loose when you move the heavy ratchets, as demonstrated by Optibotimus.

I don't know about that. MP Voltron's metal version only had 10 - 15,000 made.

I have no issues w/ my legs. My Green Lion did come w/ a crack in one of his, & it was replaced no problem. No issue since.

I find my MP Voltron fun & Playable. See here & here (I'd direct you to my Sig pic, but it's currently supporting Megs for the TFHoF). & a good toy doesn't need gimmicks. MP Voltron wasn't made for kids, it was made for the long time fans.

More than that, they did a 2nd run after the initial 15,000. Plus the plastic version.

So you did have an issue. Mine has a cracked joint too, and I've read about others having that problem too.

I need more than poseability to call a toy "fun". That's the only thing MP Voltron has (other than looking awesome on a shelf). Also, look at all the SOC toys. Loaded with gimmicks AND MP-like. No, really, designers just got lazy with Voltron. I hope Bandai does one sooner than later to show them how it's done.
