Batman: Caped Crusader vol. 2. Some good stuff collected Electric Warriors Superman Wonder Twins Criminal #2 I'd probably get that Italian volume of Uncle Scrooge from Fantagraphics if they offered it digitally. I don't think they do, though. And I would be buying these Dark Horse reprints of the EC comics if they weren't butchering the recoloring. Black and white would be better than the overwrought, self-indulgent shit job they're doing that completely obscures the fantastic linework of these master artists. These volumes are the perfect example of how NOT to reprint something. They're a tragedy. Luckily, there are many other options to choose from of previous reprints of this material by other publishers. Some may be pricey now, though.
I only grabbed Superman... I'm glad I dropped this book back when I did. This just doesn't feel like a Superman book in my estimation.
@SouthtownKid, re: Disney-Ducks... Are your reading the Barks reprints primarily? My partner gifted me the Don Rosa library volume I at xmas and its so good! His lifestory is pretty neat and all the biographical info in the endpapers really enhances reading the duck stories. He was a massive fan of Bark's work as boy and essentially was *THE* pre-digital wikipedia fans would resource for info on Carl Bark's works. When Gladstone started publishing new Donald/Scrooge adventures he rekindled his lifelong dream of drawing comix and chased the gig--at great personal expense/loss of income. But the dice roll seems to have paid off--he sounds like a really happy dude reflecting on his life. What's up with that Italian artist? Is that work that only appeared overseas? Is he also an esteemed duck-dood? I just learned that the William Gibson Alien III script (DARK HORSE) is a thing last Saturday at the comic shop--I missed issues 1 & 2, so I'll likely wait for the trade--but I think I'll try to get a flip through issue 3 when I stop in for work this weekend. I've only read "Neuromancer" and "Burning Chrome" by him--but that novel/those stories are enough for me to be sold on this. I can't believe he wrote a script that they passed on/hacked up! Gotta shout out to "DINOSAUCERS!" (LION FORGE) as another '80's property that had my full attention as a kid. I'll probably give that a flip at least... I always peep at anything that NORBROW ships and given that Charles Darwin is like Santa for my dad's side of the family, I'll surely look closer at the "Darwin: An Exceptional Voyage" graphic novel.
Yeah, the Italians have kept the Disney characters alive more than anyone since about the mid-1960s. And the Disney comics produced in Italy (Topolino - Wikipedia) have been that country's top selling comics pretty much all these years. A lot of really good duck material has come from that magazine, which has been published weekly since the 1960s. Boom has printed translated editions of a little of it. But there's literally decades of unseen-in-the-US material. Whenever some new translated reprint comes out, it's worth checking out. And yeah, Don Rosa is great. He's kind of the continuity-porn Kurt Busiek of Duck comics. He loves to create add-ons to Barks stories or create stories that fit between Barks stories.
This was an exciting new comic book day for me, because it marks the official release of my first published book
I also picked up Wonder Twins during the weekend since I was impressed with Russell on Flintstones and Snagglepuss. It was a cute start.
