I can't believe no one started a thread for this issue yet. Alpha Flight gets killed in this issue! WTF!?! They get wasted in less than a minute by some "alien" threat. I'm gonna miss them. And that Shield lady needs to go! What's her damn problem?
I was going to (got distracted), mostly for the Alpha Flight bit...killed 'off-camera' even. Damn! That and, um, the fact that despite the entire team 'assembled' on the cover, they never appear in the book, save for Stark on a screen briefly. Not that it detracts from the "jiggwha?" setup that this story is, just worth noting.
Leave it to Bendis to take a fairly established team that's been around for YEARS and wack them all off in less than 1 panel. At least let them put up some kind of a fight...Alpha Flight deserved more!
It's actually still unclear about whether they're dead or not (Bendis dropped hints on his board that the characters might or might not be dead, and they might be reviving the title with A-list creaotrs or something).
I dig the Flight. Hopefully they aren't dead. But even if they are dead, it means nothing. They'll be back.
Yeah, I saw scans of that. Went "WTF?!" However, I've read somewhere that the AF that got wasted there (along with their wildly out-of-character Shaman) might canonically not be, like...real. Or something. Timetravel clones, or whatever.
I seriously doubt that Alpha Flight is dead. Beaten to perhaps the brink of death, sure. But dead-dead? Highly doubtful...if they ARE, though, I'll be disappointed they didn't get a better send off.
Well, I doubt they're dead dead. Hell, didn't they just revive an actual Alpha Flight mini/ongoing recently?
Eh, maybe they're not dead, according to an interview with J. Quesada at Newsarama: http://www.newsarama.com/JoeFridays/JoeFridays38.html Also he says something interesting, regarding the Fantastic 4(SPOILERS) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Highlight to read: 2 of the members will die!!!
For two whole issues, he added. They just 'killed' Ben like two years ago. Isn't it a little soon for "ZoMGwtF!! they killed **** and ****!!!11"
You know, until they finally tie up the whole "House of M" aftermath thing (the conclusion to the "cause and effect" notion brought up in HoM #8, last page), I wouldn't get too worked up over these revisions. Stuff like the F4 spoiler, Spider-Man in "The Other," Civil War, etc...I wouldn't be surprised if the backlash of Wanda setting the world back after HoM and depowering so many mutants didn't end up undoing some of those shocking events (while also working out unsightly kinks in continuity, like the Clone Saga, Avengers: The Crossing, etc). And until I see a solid, final resolution to that pink blob over the Earth in damn near every comic where you see a shot of the Earth from space, I'm sticking to my predictions.
I was kidding. But I still call shenanigans. If they kill off two of them, it won't be long term, it'll be for an arc or two, otherwise the book will die. I buy Fantastic Four on a regular basis, but I ain't buying the Terrific Two.
Whenever I hear a major chaacter will "die" I just laugh. Death means nothing! They are not going to kill their top characters, it won't happen. There's always a catch.
Definately! There's like 5 text free pages at the start and a preview of another series at the end. I had to recheck the cover when I was flipping through it to make sure I picked up the right comic.
