I have no idea how to feel. I'm interested in more animated movies, especially with the people involved doing exactly that, but I also am the type who still wants some more live-action stuff. I'm definitely watching this movie when it comes out, but I'm gonna have to hold it to a standard around the peak of the Movie Media that Transformers has.

Bring back as many of the original G1 voice actors as possible.

    Cullen & Welker are mandatory.

Heck, I'd pay double if they would bring back the Beast Wars voice actors as well.

I want David Kaye duke it out with Cullen, and Welker VS Gary Chalk.

And of course the fabulous Scott McNeil :)

A new animated Transformers product? Great! I've become more and more convinced over the years that live action Transformers was a mistake.

On the one hand, origin stories have been done to death. On the other hand, you have to start somewhere, so I'm not complaining too much.

So no humans? Yay! For some reason, Transformers writers have a very hard time writing humans as actual humans.

UGH! This plotline again. They already tried to make me gulp that down in Prime, Cyberverse, and IDW2. Do we really need this plotline again? As far as I'm concerned, Megatron has become tainted goods the instant they tried to soften him up by making him Optimus's former BFF turned failed revolutionary. Is it too much to ask that Optimus and Megs just be enemies from the start like in Animated? But who knows? Maybe this time around, Megatron and Optimus's "relationship" will simply be that of an unstoppable force clashing against an immovable object. Or maybe they'll play it exactly as they've been playing it for the past decade. I know which side I'm placing my bets on.

To quote Grimlock: Getting better, but still not more better enough.

Not when very few people are reading them.
Think of this from a non-hardcore fanatic's perspective.
Here's something that's been done over and over: Me repeating that only those of us who are hardcore into the fandom have read the comics and books where this story is brought up, and even then some of us have not read said comics or books. Shit, maybe some people just don't want to read the books or comics. Especially the comics, that's a lot of stuff to catch up on and alot of money. Some of us don't feel as if it's been properly adapted. As far as the general public knows, you know, the masses who are actually going out to see these movies, Optimus and Megatron had a thing once, and that's even if they remember the throw-away "brother" lines that happened twice over a course of the 5 films.

This is the perfect chance to introduce this idea on a mainstream level, and given the talent, its the perfect way of doing so. This indecisive and contradicting fandom can bitch and whine all it wants like Star Wars fanboys, but this project is something that a lot of people (both in and outside the fandom) have been asking for and wanting to see for a very long time.

Keep this in mind; WE'VE been seeing the origins of Prime and Megatron's relationship done a few times. How many has the general public seen it in theaters? It's only been hinted at once, when Prime calls him "brother" in TF1. After that it's been dropped. This is Paramounts chance to turn Optimus Prime and Megatron into fully-developed characters instead of CGI setpieces saddled next to a-list celebs acting like morons.

Please consider this; not everyone who goes to see these films is a hardcore Transformers fan outside of these fansites and fan-pages.

I don't get what you're saying here. The general public doesn't know this story, so we need to introduce it to them. The hardcore fans who know the story apparently haven't seen the shows, read the comics, read the books, or played the games that deal with this idea. But at the same time they also have been demanding to see this story for a long time. Which is it?

Then why go along with it?

I honestly enjoy Toy Story 2, my favourite of the series even,

Even though we kindof already know how it ends anyway.

Thing is though, this is a franchise with multiple "canons". Adding yet another so soon may likely alienate newcomers.

    Exactly.

That's just one example you keep bringing up, one.

    At least a consistent one.

    Most likely confusing.

    Unless it's G1-ish.

    Most likely Knightverse.

I don't see much reason either.

    Why not?

So by that logic, Beast Machines is a prequel.

I think Bumblebee already did that.

The BB ones seem enough to me.

Megatron does mention it again in The Last Knight. Before Optimus goes "this is Sparta" on him.
    Megatron: We were brother once.
    Optimus Prime: Once.

The literal post said "apart from previous Transformers live-action movies and the Bumblebee movie." So no, it will not be in the same continuity as Bumblebee or Bayverse

That is true, but TF1 actually let that sink in even for a little bit. TF5 just threw that in because they had no intention of exploring it again after he gets kicked out of the movie, but that goes to show how forgettable it was.

But does it HAVE to be 2 separate continuities? What's wrong with just making a prequel that stands on its own. Like the Joker is not connected to any other films and does not need a sequel because of how great it was.

It doesn’t need to be PG-13. Toy Story 3 was G but it had a scene far more intense than literally any of the Bay films ever came close to.

You know what? After giving it some more thought, I think I’m on board and like this idea. Why? Because this could be their chance to finally do a backstory about Megatron and Optimus’s relationship WELL. And make it different. The reason I’m sick of it is because it’s the same thing over and over and never that interesting or nuanced.

Omfg, I feel like a broken record at this point. Let me break this down for you:

Comics and books= show Optimus & Megatron origins
Shows and movies= passingly reference an Optimus & Megatron origin
Fans with enough money/time, a minority= read the comics and books.
Fans with not so much money/time, a majority= didn't/barely read the comics and books (my own experience, and that of other fans I know IRL).
Fans with not so much money/time= have relied on movies and shows.
General public=didn't read the comics and books.
General public=best exposure to franchise are the films.
Didn't read the comics or books= didn't get to see the Optimus & Megatron origin first-hand.
Didn't read the comics or books= want to see the Optimus & Megatron origin first-hand.
Heck, why not also throw in
Don't wanna read books or comics= watch shows and movies instead.

Shows and movies= the most accessible and easy to consume media
Shows and movies= what the majority of people want to see.

I understand this. My point is that if this is a story so many people want SO BADLY you would think they would have made an effort to pursue it over the last decade. Exodus is five bucks and change on Amazon. That's more affordable than a $14 movie ticket. I just would rather not see the same story rehashed again because the people who want it so much can't even bother to engage with any of the many times it has been told.

It can not be a prequel if there isn't a prequel to anything

Ok, you are clearly do not understand the point I'm trying to make, so let's approach this from another angle.
    Ok, I read Exodus.
Ok, I spent way more than "$14" on the comics.
I want a movie out of it now please.

    Yes, I can have both.
    Yes, I can want both.
Is that so hard to understand?
