Only ever made two Animated purchases in my life (Arcee is the other), after all these years finally decided to open up this magnificent bastard. Better late than never!

I've decided to pick up some animated figures because I just started watching the series. Have a few questions about scale and what will look the best together for the main autobot team. Specifically Bee, Optimus and Bulkhead. Should I go activator Bee, Deluxe OP and Voyager Bulkhead or deluxe, voyager and leader respectively or different combo. I only plan to get one figure per character so any advice would be nice. I like how Voyager Bulkhead looks more animation accurate but worried he'll look too small. Comparison pictures would also be a help. In the process of going back through this thread to look for pics.

2nd question is other than the main team any must get figures. Just trying to pick a few to have an animated shelf, not the whole line.

3rd question: Any figures that are prone to breaking and I should be wary of? Just scanning a few pages back looks like Swindle is one. How does the clear plastic Sons of Cybertron set hold up?

 

I need to get a Wreck Gar, he is unfinished business for me. I shit you not, summer of 2008, All 4 year old me wanted was Animated Wreckgar.

 

Anyone know of any toy accordions that are appropriately sized for Wreck-Gar?

voy grimlock is great but you would also want to dip into snarl and swoop as there practically a set

aside from swindle, lockdowns wrists, deluxe bees stingers there seems to be few issues.
the engineering lets things pop back on if they pop off.

She may not be T30, TR, Cyberverse, MP or ER, But arguably Animated Arcee is the best engineered Arcee of them all.

 

One of the only Arcees to not be a shellformer. She's awesome!

 

Recently saw some listings for the individual Animated Stunticons on ebay, and I couldn't resist picking up a Breakdown. I have a huge amount of nostalgia for Animated and have always wanted this figure, but didn't want to put down the cash for a full set. Suffice to say, Breakdown is nothing short of spectacular. Prepare for a lot of gushing!



This is my first experience with the Rodimus mold, and it does not disappoint. The sculpt is outstanding! He has great proportions and is very clean, especially if you fold his waist all the way back (otherwise he looks a smidge hunched over - it's like an ab crunch!). He's also very poseable for a figure of his time. There are some weird clearances with his shoulders and arm kibble, but they are extremely minor.



From watching reviews, I was afraid that the shoulders would pop off, the armatures they swing on would break, or that he wouldn't have enough heel to support himself. This figure has no such issues. I got him into a one-legged kick no problem. This copy was also taken care of pretty well for being nearly 10 years old, the joints are still pretty tight.



It's amazing how well this works for Breakdown. It has aspects of his original G1 design with the wheels on the shoulders and spoiler on his back. The hood chest also works since Breakdown often has one when he is a Sideswipe redeco. The head sculpt is the icing on the cake. The likeness to G1 Breakdown was definitely prioritized over Sideswipe, and I honestly prefer it to Rodimus'.



Don't even get me started on the paint deco. The familiar G1 colors I love like his off-white are all present, but with some slight tweaks that make him really unique. His eyes are a unique pink, and his face and hood are made in this lovely maroon, which appears reddish like his original incarnation, but hits just right with a purple Decepticon flair. Perhaps this color should show up on more characters other than Dead End. I also love the Stunticon job symbol that is front and center on the figure. The crash test background is perfect for a crew of stunt-bots!



It's also crazy how tall he gets as a robot. Look at him with some recent generations figures, he's as tall as Skywarp!



Alt-mode is spot on. The Rodimus vibes are really strong here, I can almost hear Dare playing in the background. Works really well as a stand-in for Breakdown's usual Lamborghini alt-mode. It's super cool how well this thing compresses into car mode. Wish the third party Breakdowns could pull off a trick like this!



So yeah, do I like Breakdown? You bet I do! He's a holy grail for me and I'm happy to have him. Makes me really want some more animated Decepticons.

This does look like a really successful and fun repurposing of the Rodimus mold (a mold I have yet to own and experience much to my sadness).
