My toy replacement hips just arrived. I never applied the toon version so this is my first experience with them. My first impression is how did NA manage to screw up the proportions so bad and why is nobody complaining?



A few hours later I realized it was me that screwed up the transformation.



He has an urgent appointment with a paintbrush, but other than that it looks okay. I wish the top of the thighs were silver instead of gray though - maybe the painted plastic may not work well in a ball joint? I didn't mind the old hips that much, so this is a slight improvement but I wouldn't call it a must have. It would definitely better if the upper thighs were the same color as the lower. Anybody know of a good paint match?

 

Those fan-coloured Sunbow character models are inaccurate, and shouldn’t really be used for comparison purposes. For a start, Dirge should look like this (note the area of blue on his back, and the conical blue section that sits just behind the cockpit in jet mode):

It’s from a work-in-progress attempted by a user on the Allspark forums to get accurate colour references, based on real behind the scenes info, plus details of the exact paint types that Sunbow used on their cels.

A few drops of Tamiya X-1 later and the new pants are a clear win. The original had tons of bad angles - the new ones look much better all around. They're slightly loose - nothing a little bit of clear coat wouldn't fix, and really not bad enough for me to bother. I still wish the tops of the thighs matched - but that's just a matter of somebody matching the color.

Hey, it’s totally not a dig at your good selves, I understand your hands are tied. Your store has an excellent word-of-mouth reputation and - until the postage costs flashed up on my screen - I was more than happy to give you folks a go.

It’s such a shame for all parties because it puts up barriers - it robs you of potential customers, and as a customer it robs me of retail options.

did the back cover ever get released by whomever was making it to hide the unsightly back mess on this figure?

that's the only major complaint i have which has made me hold out on purchasing to see Magic Square's final product comparisons side by side to this.

it's not a repair kit per say, more of an alternate option. some ppl didn't like how the original crotch/hips looked and articulated. it was somewhat awkward. so NA pushed out alternative replacement to appease the masses.
