Just got my Thundercracker from ShowZ today with the legs (I had preordered separately, fyi, and still all good). Very cool to see a problem solved by a different means. Haven't installed it yet, but I can see how this will greatly help any action leg poses since the hinges are more traditionally placed higher up. Standing straight might only make a small difference. I'm surprised they left the 'ballsack' joint junction grey though, it does stick out in a slightly.. suggestive.. way. I'll probably paint it gloss black as I don't think it rubs on anything (thinking about my paint and also for Megatron's comfort.)

Any advice on replacing the mushroom peg? Is heating with a blowdryer and good or terrible idea to slide it out? it's what you do for PVC action figures (usually I boil), but I dunno about transformers.

Yup! Easy to pop the legs, swap two screws per leg, done. The leg thighs do look much better.

And by the way, that photo above thread of the part is improperly transformed, there are two little panels on each side of the front flap that haven't been flipped out; they're really small. Once you've done that, you can push the leg legs higher up under the crotch, which reduces the length of the leg; I think the overall height now is barely 1mm taller than before.

Hmm, I might keep the original on so that there’s not a megacrotch playing peekaboo

I don’t hate it, but I don’t hate the original hips either.

oh, i wasn't being the least bit serious with my post. i get it some don't like the finished look. but if you have to pick the second option is more than acceptable in my book.

So the new hips arrived with thundercracker today, didn't realise I'd have to transfer parts over from the original. IMG_20200114_160731.jpg

With the "new pants" you trade the original unnatural hip joints for a gappy waist. Not sure if it's a completely worthwhile trade myself.

yeah, i really think this is a case of user error here. i have seen plenty of pics of this bot online with the new hips and none of them have that gap.

You didn't do it all the way. First, fold up the side skirts, so they don't hang as long down the thigh And next, fold the hip joint connected to the legs all the way up 90 deg, possible more, until the grey ball is as far up as possible; the two pushed up like that should shove the waist piece all the way up to the torso and make them touch.

I posted pics of mine just a few posts up, no gap.

Pretty sure, but there are no instructions so I can't be 100% certain. The black hip piece is a separate part that slides up and down freely. I haven't found anything that would lock them in place. It's not a huge thing at this scale but I thought it worth noting. Would be very happy to be corrected if I missed something.

Here it is in up position - no gap but visible "underpants":

And a wider view of the back where you can see the channel that they slide on:

I'll take another look when I get home, but they seemed to be all the way up when I tried it last night.
