He's in the earthrise toyline doesn't mean he's in the netflix earthrise tho... I'm confused by these toylines lol

Did anyone else notice that Soudwave and Soundblaster both only had one of their back mounted rocket pods instead of the two on the toy?

i\'ve only seen the first 2 eps so far, honestly after garbage like the previous machinima transformers i wasn\'t expecting much. my problems consist of
    • everyone talks so slowly
    • theres a problem with scaling, bumble bee is almost as tall if not taller than wheeljack, and chromia and cogs fit on the back of optimus in vehicle mode.
    • the action is mediocre and clunky
    • voice acting lacks emotion in a show about war
    • lack of unique designs. so hasbro
    • bumblebee, wheeljack and elita1 have not transformed, i don\'t expect them to since they will only have earth vehicle toys. very lazy
    netflix truly will buy anything

Stick with it, it gets better. You can see they developed as they went.

But yeah a bit more space in the show, spread out the angst and talking, and some more events to play to characterisations and I think you could have had a lot more fun with the journey, had some contrast in tone/visual tone, even used those autobot/deception idents/screen-wipes to reinforce everything and yeah make the most of your characters... But that's a 40ep series...

Looking forward to what comes next.

But... what is it good for...?

Hopefully they won't follow up with such overuse of "Earthrise" and "Kingdom" in the next chapters... that could get very silly very quickly...

I’m probably super late to this party, but I just wanted to express my admiration for what I call Elita-1’s “Oy Vey” Faces.

LOL! Someone on the wiki spotted that the SDCC G1 repaints of Reflector appear in the crowd shots in episode 3.
Yet Scrapface, who got a new toy... never appears.

It's funny how much I kept agreeing with Elita during this show, and how I felt like she just used the "have to stay behind" as an excuse to finally break up with Prime. Certainly it did not feel at any point that she loved him much.

Well... this Impactor isn't likely going to lead the Wreckers, sadly.
I am also surprised they never used Springer, who has Cybertronian alt modes and is connected to Impactor, in that team, instead of Sideswipe.

The texturing and rendering of the series is good. But the animation was bad..... i mean... the robots were forced to deform like jello in some animation/movements simply because the mecha designs were not capable of performing certain actions like torso flex... Urggh... I thought I was watching jelloformers

Depends where you bar for this kind of stuff is. The limitations in rigging are not the main issues of the show. HOWEVER, unless someone spills the beans and we get to find out for sure, it is both distracting and amusing to ponder whether how the trade off went between direction>animator>rigging>modelling>production>licensee oversight played into something like this.

I could well see a less then perfect (but none-the-less expedient) situation leading to the mistaken idea that to serve direction/animation and obey the understanding of shouldn't mess with the design (at this stage) that torso warp is perfectly acceptable... And production sign off the shot not wanting to rock the boat/challenge certain people/re-open past discussions and/or add cost.

Or whether time depending they hoped to review to revisit the issue and inevitably ran out of time and the shot was not missing and at that stage that was good enough :)

... Or all of the above rolled into one.

But yeah it's certainly not the most challenging problem to solve given everything else they overcame and achieved in this series, *if* there had been the agreement to solve that as an issue... And it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall for those talks or concerns and to what scale this went... Even if it just came down to one dude saying fck it - no one's going to notice and we get the hip movement I wanted... Or this'll show Em why I wanted a more detailed rig - they'll let us do one for next time etc etc.... Your definition of interesting might be different to mine haha :)

He shows up in episode 6. I missed him the first time, too, since he's only onscreen for about five seconds. It's during that montage of a bunch of different characters while Prime and Megatron are giving speeches.
    Thanks! :)

I’ve now finished the show. It was okay. I’ve seen better Transformers series. I’ve seen worse. There were certainly a few shock deaths.
I was almost positive that Magnus was going to live at first. Initially, Megatron was pointing his fusion cannon at Magnus head and I thought it would have been cool if Megatron blew it off only for Magnus to startle the Decepticons by shedding the Magnus armor, transforming into his truck cab alt mode, and re-emerging later as White Prime with his real head intact due to the way the toy transforms.
I also wasn’t entirely pleased that Skywarp was haphazardly killed off. Couldn’t it have been some other generic seeker like Red Wing or Hotlink?
Speaking of generics, I wasn’t too pleased when they killed off Moonracer and she was revealed to be just a recolored Chromia. I know they used a lot of recolored bots in the background for this series to save production time, but when you actually name a specific Transformer couldn’t you at least get her head sculpt right, even if it’s for a two second death cameo?
I wept for Impactor. I just wanted him to Wreck ‘n’ Rule, ya know?
Also, how did Soundblaster’s goons not register any weapons on Cog when he literally transforms into guns? That seems like a huge oversight in their security.

Those are really just some nitpicks. There were parts I enjoyed. Like I mentioned before, the reference to the opening of the original cartoon with Wheeljack and Bumblebee was cool. I enjoyed Impactor’s story arc. Starscream’s ambition was on full display.

Watching on a smaller screen like a phone - gives it a very fine comic book kind of aesthetic - no idea if they authored it with this in mind, but it's rather nifty imho

Going to try it like this + Japanese for a different third watch. Criticisms remain, but after being somewhat underwhelmed initially, I am enjoying this more with subsequent watches... no idea if this simply by design lends itself to the different formats I'm trying and/or whether my (probably over the top) hopes are now held somewhat in check.

I think a smaller screen certainly shows a comic book inspired screenplay/shot planning and camera use, rather than film/anime - perhaps if not the greatest cartoon series, this could perhaps be the best animated visual novel...

...It's not going to get rave reviews, but I really hope they get the budget and motivation to continue, learn how to communicate more passion, dynamism and pacing --- and who knows hopefully one day explore smaller scale character specific stories with episodes/mini-series... As critical as I may be about the current execution; there's so much potential here.

When Astrotrain was shown briefly, and was enormous, I was expecting the episode to end with Megatron and his troops hopping aboard Astro’s train mode, chugging along and launching into the air in shuttle mode and leaving Cybertron in pursuit of Prime. It would have been a nice homage to the G1 movie. Maybe they’ll begin Season 2 that way?

My biggest criticism of the show is the dialogue. So...deliberately....drawn...out...
Along with that I was surprised to see so many voice actors used because I honestly thought the same four people were doing all the voices - they just didn’t sound very distinct from one another. I think I’ll try it in Japanese like others have suggested.

Also I really want a metal 20 sided die sculpted like the Allspark now. :D

Show was a huge hit in this house. My daughter screamed when Elita-1 showed up (she has the Combiner toy and only knows her from season 1 of G1 (I think that is right... somewhere in G1 )). Boys loved it. They thought it was so cool how the siege toys they have look IDENTICAL to what they were seeing on screen. Well done Netflix and Hasbro!

I really got a kick out of the new show. Felt like whoever wrote the episodes took the brand seriously. I love how 'Mad Max' Cybertron felt - like everyone had sort of given up on it ever reaching its potential again and just wanted to forge whatever they could out of the wasteland that had been left behind.

Only thing that really bothered me was the ending. It just felt like there needed to be a seventh episode - more time to elaborate on the Guardians, the power of the AllSpark, etc. Was there a reason everyone thought the Ark was destroyed? Didn't it just go through the spacebridge like normal?

Magnus in disguise was legit the funniest part of the series...although unintentionally.

Maybe they thought all of the ashes or whatever that were floating down were what was left of the ark? I agree though, it was a space bridge portal so I don’t know why some floating debris would make everyone go, “They dead.”

maybe debris is not a normal part of the space bridge transport?
