So apparently Netflix is bleeding subscribers.
Last I read it was half a million.

Now to me, that doesn’t sound like a big deal.
But let’s just say it is:

Will this show hurt it more or help save it?

Honestly? I don't think it'll do either. It's Masters of the Universe. Not some blockbuster tentpole for the summer cinemas.

Animation ain’t cheap tho- and the big name voice talent surely wasn’t a bargain either. This had to have cost Netflix a pretty penny.

True, but their ongoing MO has been to throw money at the wall and then worry about it later. If this ends up doing poorly it won't hurt them any more than their previous blunders.

Edit: Also, having read some of the articles that talk about Netflix losing subs, it's clear that it's not one particular issue or show, but a myriad of reasons.

Jeez wow I am starting to feel like I am an insane person. I haven’t even seen this show yet but it seems painfully obvious to me that Teela is “going through some shit” so being bitter and angry is a precursor to the next evolution when she becomes who she is supposed to be.

This is happening to a lot of the streaming services, many people are paying for a month or two bingeing, then dropping the service and going to a different one. Have Netflix for a month drop it, go to Hbo max for a month drop it, move over to paramount etc.

Eventually the bill comes due and HBO,Netflix, and Disney have all been borrowing a lot. Honestly I don't think any of them can get the subscriber base numbers they want. Too much competition, not enough compelling content people want to see, and they are still competing with Cable TV as well. At this point it's turning into survival of the fittest.

Which really isn't anything new with the current market and is bound to happen. My guess is eventually you might see some of them consolidate that can't survive on their own.

That has been one thing most reviewers agree on. The animation looks good.

    I watched 3 reviews.

    IGN.
    Grace Randolph.
    "Some other reviewer".

Despite differing conclusions regarding whether the show was "good" or not they all addressed the same talking points. That suggests to me that those are real occurrences in the show. They are addressing things that i wouldn't find entertaining. After the way Voltron - Legendary Defender ended.... i'm good. I'm not willing to sit through that at the moment.

However i do hope it's successful. This will be someones first exposure to He Man and the MOTU. Hopefully it generates decades of magic and memories for them as it did for us.

I give every person/outlet a chance. If what they say turns out to be true, then I give them credibility, regardless of whether or not their politics offend me.

anyone who vehemently argued against those people supporting the rumors now are clearly false. (And Kevin smith) So I don’t give them credibility.

    simple as that.

Pretty much all the rumors. I honestly barely ever watch their videos, but in this case all of the rumors were basically true.

doesn’t mean I’m gonna white knight for them. I dont even know who they are.

They said Teela is a better He-Man than Adam and Andra is Teela's girlfriend. Neither of those things have been suggested by any other source.

Yeah, the "queere baiting" between Teela and Andra was one of the big things that Clownfish were complaining about and I haven't seen any other source mention that. We'll see tomorrow.

So 2 out of the 10 rumors yet to be confirmed. Look man I’m not gonna defend clownfish, I don’t watch em and and I hardly know what they are.

We are now going from a “all rumors are false and if you support them your wrong “ scenario to:

“yes this is the reality, but 5% of your rumors are false so stop bringing it up”

I really don’t care man. I’m gonna watch the show anyways. Enough people will be enraged that their childhood heman property has basically been whittled away.

oh well. That’s how things go now. The playbook has already been applied to almost every other beloved property, and isn’t going to end anytime soon.

I support it. I’ll watch it, I’m drinking the koolaid with you.

fair enough. So if that becomes true then what? Would you say “clownfish you were right”?

I'm not trying to dogpile you, I understand what you're saying. I hope we both love it. But my point is, if you're not familiar with them, haven't really watched their videos and cannot articulate specifics about the rumors they're touting than maybe it's not true.

The two rumors they've offered are not true according to any reviewer that has seen the first 5 episodes but they're claiming victory because the synopsis provided by Kevin Smith and Netflix in August 2019 is apparently accurate. This is an elaborate game of phone tag and a lot of innocent people are spreading gossip, nothing more.
