Because, for some reason, that movie that's still in development hell tangled up the rights for the main MOTU cast of characters, so DreamWorks pitched for She-Ra instead. Now that this is a thing, though, I'm not sure what's going on.
And, the reason why I can imagine this stuff, is because this is the exact kind of stuff I watched when I was a 13. I was 13, a good 10 years later, but I still very much watched these kinds of cartoons. And, since DC made the comics, it's easy to say, that he either one, first started reading comics, then saw the show, and watched that, or watched the show, and got into the comics after that. Now that you've mentioned the comics, I now wonder if he's going to make He-Man less like the old cartoon, and more like the old comics.
Interesting how this series plans to finish "unresolved" stories... Obviously I was too young to remember what any of them were (when I used to watch this cartoon religiously on the television set).
The show didn't have any unresolved stories. It was your typical 80's "plot of the day" stuff. The Teela thing is about the only recurring theme from the original cartoon. Besides that I can't see what "loose threads" they're going to tie up with this show unless they start plucking stuff from the mini-comics too. Would have been better to continue the 200X series... that... actually was cancelled with loose plot threads hanging.
About the only other one I could think of is the notion of He-Man's mother, Queen Marlena, originally being a astronaut from Earth (implied to be a near-future Earth, maybe late 21st or 22nd Century). They had one episode recounting her being found by Randor, as well as redonning her spacesuit and ship to rescue the entire royal family from Skeletor (while implying that she figured out He-Man identity already), and another episode where a couple other astronauts are brought to Eternia and recognize Marlena from her space explorer days.
Kevin Smith Shares an Update on Netflix's Masters of the Universe Series "During the #austin stop on the @jayandsilentbob #rebootroadshow Tour, I visited the fine folks at @powerhousecreative - the kids who are animating our @masters of the Universe series for @netflix and @mattel!" Smith wrote in a Facebook post. "I saw amazing art (that I can't show you yet) and let our animators know who we cast! It was thrilling to see animatics that reflected my script for episode 1 and our directors are crushing it, making my dopey script better with very vivid visuals!"
It's a cg series. ‘He-Man’: Netflix And Mattel Return To Greyskull For CG Series – Deadline Is that the two powers swords from the old mini comics?
This is a completely different series, unrelated to the one that Kevin Smith is working on. So, we're getting two He-Man series.
