Is it just me, or has the fandom kind of stopped complaining about "ugly neon colours" on their toys after the Unicron trilogy ended?
There haven't been as many garish neon figures in recent memory as in the A/E/C days, but I heard plenty of complaints about G2 FOC bruticus.
True, there have been complaints about Bruticus, but not many about Neon, I guess it's because Neon is so popular now.
I thought G2 was the camo version. I am really not a fan of the retail Bruticus version. To brightly multi-colored for my taste. As I am fairly new to Transformers toys that is the only thing close to neon I have seen, and I don't like it.
I think people ended up secretly liking the neon colour scheme. But only when it is on the appropriate figures for it to be an homage.
But neon is now "nostalgic" since we all all of a sudden remembered we secretly liked G2 because of BotCon.
Secretly? Hell, the only G2-esque color scheme I dislike is the Action Master Thundercracker, and even then only because there's nothing but color clash. Not a single attempt at making a cohesive scheme. But yeah, 'neon' isn't the evil it was once upon a time. If anything, the TFs these days with 'neon' colors are more awesome because they stand out in a crowd, demanding your attention and your money. Looking over my desk right at the moment, I have nine TFs dotting it, and almost half of those (Prime Dead End, Prime Rumble, GDO Hot Spot, GDO Megatron) stand out from the others (and the rest of the junk on my desk) because of the bright, garish color schemes. And that's among some pure white and bright red TFs, to boot.
Neon wasn't "the 90s" except for Transofrmers, which is weird because it was so much after the mainstream fad had died, lol. As for neon being now acceptable, even though many mainstream things are right now, no, it isn't. We just don't have that many toys that are in crazy garish color schemes anymore. And that's why FoC Bruticus feels like something out of left field. Why G2 is OK? Because it actually feels less neon (IMHO), more unified, and nostalgic for those that care.
The internet has turned into a place where people love to love things ironically. Plus, there've been other things to complain about since then.
funny because the retail one is the most garish version out there, makes the g2 look tame by comparison
True, and I suppose I've heard plenty of complaints about the "vibrancy" of the retail version as well.
