Hi guys, I need some help from you guys and hopefully some of you will know more about this situation than I do.

I'm currently on vacation in Asia and I've bought a MP Megatron (without orange tip) and then just realized that I might not be able to bring it back home (California). So what are my choices from here? I definitely do not want my toy confiscated just like that.

I can't just put my own orange tip and bring it back right? I didn't plan to open the toy and I do know that he is in Robot mode but once they scan my luggage and sees a gun barrel I'm pretty sure they'll take it from there.

So does anyone know what I can do from here? Should I just send it home through the post office from here? Would it pass if I put my own orange tip somehow?

Help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks so much for your time.

    :cry

I would FedEx it to myself or someone that I know in the states. Custums I think is a little more relaxed/overworked than airport security. Most people that got him without the orange tip didn't have a problem having him shipped in... at least during the first release. Plus I wouldn't want to try to explane to homland security why you were trying to sneak a "toy" gun onto a plain, although I hear waterboarding can be entertaining... to the guys watching it.

I would also recommend keeping it in robot mode.

sorry to hear that, it not worth going to jail for a toy.

It sucks that our country doesn't have common sense.

LoL I was almost in the same kind of situation on a class vacation to Greece.
I had been at a toy store where I picked up some TF's and I wanted to bring something home to my brother. I found a Scorpion submachine softgun for him.

When we were at the airport and were about to get our luggage scanned, I came to think of it, I had a Scorpion submachine gun... although softgun in my bag... well I could really imagine how those customs people would react when that would show up on the screen.... so what I did was I took it out of my backpack and showed it too them...
I was very surprised with their reaction. They were extremely nice and told me it wasn't a problem, I just had to go back to check-in, show it to them and they would put it in a seperate box which then would be put on the plane in the cargo compartment with my luggage... and so they did. It has a customs declaration on it detailing the contents, and upon arriving in Denmark again I picked it up along with my other bags.

Yeah but you are in Denmark. Here you get shot for having an Unmodded Megatron outside your house.

In gun mode in your jacket's inner pocket. :D

Does the barrel separate into several pieces? If so, open it and take it a part so they can't see a barrel, just a couple of ring shapped things.

Perhaps, but my point was that he could have it sent along with his luggage in the plane but in a special package with some sort of declaration on it...

The problem there is if he tried that it would be taken away. If it does not have a "Blaze Orange" tip on it they will take it away.

Easy, leave it in robot mode.

The airport security workers aren't going to care that a man is bringing a toy robot into the country.

The item isn't on any "watch lists" in the United States. Given how difficult it is to transform, nobody will claim it is a firearm, and in the unlikely chance that they do, ask them to prove it.

I'd just leave it in your luggage in it's original box. Airport scanners dont scan EVERY piece of luggage and even if it was scanned all they'd see is a toy robot. I honestly dont think you'd have a problem.

I'd just FedEx/whatever it to myself. I wouldn't even consider trying to risk getting it through an airport.

Ship it to yourself, you'll run into the least amount of bs that way.

Actually, that's really all you need to do. That's how a friend of mine smuggled a G1 Megs reissue a few years ago.

Thanks a lot for the help guys, I think my solution would be removing the gun barrel into pieces and put that elsewhere then leaving Megs in Robot Mode back in the box to my check-in luggage.

I feel that it's more 'safe' to have the item somewhat with me during the process so maybe I can try to negotiate/explain if anything does go wrong so sending it risks a chance end up being gone without any words from anyone.

    Thanks again everyone!

I don't get it...why can't you just pop it into the bag that you check the way it is? Isn't that how others bring odd things onto planes with no problems, like alcohol and hutning rifles? I guess maybe it's a different situation since you're in another country, but I still don't see how it's a problem, especially since he's in robot mode. Good luck!

Personally I think that you should be ok bringing him on the plane with you provided he is in robot mode and in his box. Check with the airline to see what their restrictions are.

Check it. You'll be fine. Hell, you can travel with real firearms in checked luggage.
