Don't want to ruin the plastic. Should I heat up the plastic to make it lose?

if you heat the pin the plastic will heat as well.

or if you have a pin popper...

If you're careful about it, then you shouldn't ruin the plastic. The soldering iron will transfer heat to the pin, which will warm up the surrounding plastic. Just make sure to use an element that's the appropriate size.

I've never used a pin-punch, so I can't comment on that method. I use a soldering iron for most of my pin and rivet removals.
