The Commemorative Soundwave (the one with Laserbeak & Ravage) was recently released in our country and seems a good deal, being priced at roughly the equivalent of US$55, I'm very interested in getting one, but I know there are several other editions like the SDCC, TFC and Encore ones. What I want to have is the closest one to the G1 pre-rub version.

    Thanks in advance.

I had the TRU one but sold it in favor of the Encore.

Encore or TFC would be the closest to the original. As they both have the single cassette chests. I do not recall if the SDCC had the single or double, but you should be able to check here in the resource section of the site, the tfwiki, or at shmax.com to confirm. Also note the fake buttons and the way the chest works on all of them are different then the original.

Encore for me. Although buying the TFC version would be an awesome choice as well. It's totally up to you, bro. :D

AFAIR the Encore has painted details, whereas the TFC has sticker details. That alone makes it much closer to the original vintage release than the Encore.

The Commemorative Series reissue provide better value for money because it's cheaper (60 vs ~100 USD) and comes with two cassettes. Some don't like his double-cassette capacity, though, and prefer the flat chested Encore despite the premium.

SDCC would be the best choice if you can find one at a reasonable price.
You get 4 tapes (Laserbeak, Ravage, Buzzsaw and Ratbat) and a flat/single cassette chested Soundwave. If you don't mind the double cassette chest, go for the Commemorative Reissue. Japanese reissues are great too, but expensive. I can't justify buying one at $100+ for a Soundwave with one tape. (Usually Laserbeak)

sounds like sdcc is the way to go. otherwise getting a buzzsaw and ratbat is a bitch.

Which Soundwave would be the cheapest? I'm not picky about which chest he has. SDCC seems to have the most cassettes, but is a tad expensive for me.

I think the recent re-re (re?) issue of the CS version is the cheapest option for a new one (?)

I just bought a Commemorative Soundwave last month, and yeah, not a fan of the double sized tape door.
    Love the packaging though :p
I would say if you want nice packaging, get the TFC edition, if you want a complete and definitive Soundwave, go for the SDCC one, and if you want value for money and somewhat nice packaging, get the Commemorative one :)

For me, its any version with the single tape door - doesn't look 'weird' IMO and is close to the original version. But whichever version you get, the SW mould is a classic and IMO one of iconic G1 toys ever made.

he's one of the few that was a must have for vintage, the buttons didn't look as cheap, since they are seaprated instead of a lump of chrome (i'm not usually a vintage is better type person) for reissue, sdcc

Thanks for the replies guys, I might get the Commemorative re-reissue this weekend, since it's the cheapest I could find at the moment and it contains Ravage and Laserbeak, my favorite cassettes. I'll just get the other versions in the future, planning to get several versions actually, including the pre-rub. :)

Add the extra 100 or so (assuming the G1 Soundwave reissue is around 50, if more you could add less) and get the Masterpiece version.

I have an sdcc with encore cassettes and maiden Japan extras (custom pile drivers for frenzy/rumble, g1 accurate head) that i think is very reasonably priced on the exchange forum if you care to look
