Resurrecting an old thread, but I figured I'd follow up on my recent purchase! See post below... OK, I am thinking of splurging on myself (I'm normally a horrible cheapskate, who will him & haw about buying a Leader Class figure until they go on sale/clearance)... I don't want to spend a *lot*, sticking around $50 or so (yes, I know Grimmy's more expensive than that), and have whittled my choices down to these three figures... The main focus of my collection is Primes/semis, although I do have others like Hasbro's "MP" Prime, Starscream, Skywarp, & Takara's Megatron... My wife has a soft spot for Rodimus (and it's my understanding that Ani. Rodimus is a little hard-to-find)... So, for those reasons: THS-02 Hybrid Style Convoy: love G1, know he's pretty small (but he's got a trailer!), alt sucks, but robot mode & accessories are pretty sweet... Again, I collect Prime figs, and this one would be a nice addition to that... MP Grimlock: It's a Masterpiece Grimlock! Him badass... Animated Sons of Cybertron: A clear Prime, with a 'bonus' Rodimus (so my wife can lay claim to him once I open the box!)... It'd probably be my only shot at these figures (and a clear Prime in general)... So, what are your thoughts? Do you have any input on Hybrid Style Prime (do you own him)? Thanks in advance! Methusalen
Out of what you're considering I'd say MP Grimlock (I have him and the Hybrid Convoy), but the Hybrid Convoy is a pretty nice little set to have for G1 Prime fans. As long as you're ok with Hybrid's goofy looking cab in alt mode you're going to love it, but I would still put MP Grimmy before him.
From your choice, I'd go for the clear Prime/Rodimus. It's the most prone to get pricier over time, thus reducing your chance to get it at later date if you don't like to spend too much. Right now you pay a normal price for it so it's still a good deal. Plus you and your wife get a figure each! THS-02 is awesome, but old enough to have it's price pretty much fixed, so you always have the possibility to get it later in the same price range. Same thing for Grimlock, he's awesome but should retain current value for a while if taking previous Hasbro Masterpiece as exemple (Skywarp is still cheap). It would be my second choice as it can possibly get a bit pricier after a while.
How is the market for Grimlock? They only way I knew about this guy was That New Toy Smell and here...so I went up to TRU today and there he was, so I picked him up that 72 dollars is still stinging me right now
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!!!! Alright, I managed to find a Grimlock on the shelf at Toys 'R' us shortly after this thread was created, and he's a wonderful & welcome addition to my Masterpiece collection! -A friend picked up the clear ani. Roddy & Prime, and I picked up the Prime from him as he only wanted the Rodimus from the set... and Prime is pretty awesome. -I'm glad it was the 'G1' Ani. Prime (w/ the smokestacks), as he fits in wonderfully with my Prime collection... But yesterday I finally received a THS-02 Prime from a trade I made (Primus for him)... And I have to say, THIS FIGURE IS AWESOME! While the one I have has one splitting wheel (a common issue with this figure), and one slightly-loose knee, all those things are secondary to the amount of detail and the poses you can put him into! The size of the figure, the detail, the articulation, the accessories (multiple hands, jetpack, base, rifle, axe, Roller, complete trailer w/ opening doors & a ramp!)... Not to mention the fact that he's got some die-cast metal? -and that most of that mass is in his legs, making him extremely stable on his feet in most poses you put him in???? Yeah... PRIME should have been my first! Thanks to everyone who replied! All-in-all, while I'm happy having picked up the other two first; I'm absolutely THRILLED with Prime now that I have him!!! The only shame? Now I have to find the trailer & G2 head from the THS-02B to make him into G2 Prime!
