If you see anything in my collection knocked over or in a state of catastrophe, that is because I was in the middle of re-doing the display, so bare with me on that part. Hopefully this gives you some great ideas on what you can do. My wife really hit a home-run in my opinion! Remember, I only have the top row and the right portion of the second row complete. I am waiting to order additional strips to complete all of the rows (except maybe the bottom row...haven't decided yet...)

hell yes. Thank you for the pics/info. The versatility of the colors is a nice touch.

There *are* many LEDs that don't give off UV, but as I noted, they are not putting out full spectrum, so the colors you see will not be as true as they can be. I know that may not be big to some people but for me, color fidelity is important! :)

Another option I forgot to mention which is relatively new would be electroluminescent panels. EL tape is what was used to create the glowing effects on the costumes for Tron Legacy and also things like the glowing white lining in Flynn's jacket. The smaller panels - the sort you could stick to the underside of a display case shelf - are relatively cheap and can be had in many colors. They can be wired together with some very basic electrical knowledge (essentially, you need to understand positive and negative, and you'll be fine) to create continuous circuits with numerous panels in each circuit, making it easy to do simple, clean wiring with small gauge wires that are easily hidden.

Not sure if you're replying to me or the Sylvania system...if you mean the EL panels, no, you'll need to get them online. Just search "EL Panel" and you'll find dozens of sites with their various size, color, and other options.

I've read on other collector sites that the recent Dioder lights are definitely yellow-ish now. Lot of people unhappy.

The Mosaic lights that was just posted in the pics from Costco does have a brightness control. You can brighten/dim them. I just bought one pack and I'm playing around with it. They are pretty cool.

How would I use those with a detolf? I want to use one per shelf. I would need to get 16 connectors?

hmmm, these Sylvania LED strip lights are cool. But they are made to run together all in one long chain. Not really ideal for a multi-tiered Detolf type shelf. You can cut them, but there's no way to get all of them connected to the main power/controller. The Ikea Dioder strip lights are more versatile with their thin/long connector cables, but they aren't as cool as the Sylvania that has a remote control and different colored lights.

Squall42080's shelves lend themselves much better to the Sylvania light application than a Detolf. Might have to just get something like these:

I have these battery operated LED puck lites, and 2 overhang plug in Ikea lights. Seen in photo.

Looks outrageously awesome. Both are remote operated.

Rite Lite brand. (remote) They have a "low" function on them, which I use instead of the full blast mode. Battery life hasn't been an issue yet; they run on 3 aaa, fyi.

I only use them when I'm showing off, lol, usually the 2 hanging overheads are the ones running.

Target has rite light brand. Does battery change require removing the adhesive

I might get rid of my ur current and go nuts with rechargable batteries maybe. The thing is I turn mine on each night

nope, once the lights are adhered, you don't need to rip them down to replace batteries. They merely half turn, and click off the base which is adhered.

I worried about battery life too when I looked into them. This was my plan:

    rechargeable batteries:
Amazon.com: SANYO NEWEST VERSION RECHARGE 1500 TIMES eneloop AAA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries X 12 batteries: Electronics

    a good, cheap recharger:
Amazon.com: Hitech 10 slot IC Advanced Charger for AA and AAA Ni-MH / Ni-CD batteries with 2 slots for 9V batteries: Electronics

I haven't had to change batteries out yet, and I've had them for almost 2 months now. Also, run them on "low".

Hmmm yea can't decide on which ones would be better to go wired or wireless battery.
