Hey folks, this is how I’ve been spending my lockdown time. A couple of projects rolled into one, to the chagrin of my wife. My kids like watching me though, zooming around the kitchen.

Interestingly, shooting at 30fps on the iPad but animated on 2s at 24fps results in animation which almost looks smooth!

Help me out and subscribe and like, and it might kick me into doing more stuff like this.

MYSTERY Legends-size Third Party Triple Changer -- review and animation!!

Holy cow, that was well-done; awesome animation!

I wish that was a real figure! It's so detailed; did you design it yourself?? A 3rd party should make it for real.
You were indeed watching 3D CGI models. Very convincing ones!

CGI or not, its a solid little design, I'd buy one if it was a real figure

    In the words of Swindle:

    "Gentlemen, we've been had..."

Look close at him, using the REAL figures as a reference, the Blitzwing is ALL CGI, Its fake.

Yup, before anyone gets annoyed I might be legitimately trying to pass off CGI as stop motion, let me explain that indeed, this is all CGI. Yes, I'm being coy in the video, but I'm not trying too hard to cover it up, it was just an idea that snowballed from "let's try to design a Transformer for fun" to "hey, I could do a fake review with this model, now that it's built." The mistakes are all over the place to make this survive close scrutiny, starting very swiftly with Sideswipe, with whom I forgot to remove the logo off his chest, and which disappears as soon as he's CGI and then comes back again, ha. After that, convenient camera blur anytime my rough handtrack falls apart. Also, my frame rate mistakes (like I mentioned above), motion blur on blurred video, color problems.. etc etc.

Really, this was an exercise in making a viable Legends Blitzwing design, since no one has made one (other than IDW-IF) and he's a favorite of mine. I'm happy that *I think* it's physically plausible, but he is fairly complex, so I guess it would be as pricey as NewAge Megs I would think if someone made it.

After that I just applied my animation background to make the video, but I'm an animator, not a roto artist or comper. I work in high end vfx and I'll be the first to say the anim is fairly crude here, but it's still way too smooth to be plausible without armature support. I had opportunities when I was living in SF to work on the Bay TF films, but from the second I saw the designs I stayed far away and I'm glad I did (yuck), but the itch to animate something TF has been strong ever since I started collecting 3P Legends.

Anyway. I think I might post another video of a slower step by step transform process, see what you guys think, if it's something that could be turned into a tooled toy... not that I mean to, but it'd be fun to see what mistakes I might have made if the parts were to be manufactured. I think I've tabbed everything that needs to be locked etc, but there are areas around the arms and head swivel which might be a bit skeevy.

As a side note, I did orignally mean to do Sideswipe as stop mo and only Blitzwing as CGI, but the idea of having to roto him out frame by frame when he's in the foreground was a no-go, way too time intensive and boring, and taking over the kitchen table for 2 weeks was even more impossible, so modelling and rigging Sideswipe in CGI was way more feasible (still a good 6-8 hour job though!). If anyone thinks CGI is easy and quick, btw, you're wrong... my wife is so glad I've wrapped this up.

p.s. apologies to anyone hoping for a real 3P Blitz Legend, I'm right there with ya :(

Yep, Blitzwing is FAKE IN EVERY SHOT. It does not exist. Shitty to post it as "3rd party news". Should be moved to "fan fiction" or something.

Too bad, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Aw. People post their design work here all the time, I would say this is what this is. I'll put up some more design-type stuff when I have time.

I enjoyed the video. Great animation. Plus way more interesting than the usual blacked out image or FT preorder.

    Hope it becomes reality.

But is it an actual working design or just a model that does nothing but cheat?

This was fantastic, and the set up was fun. Some people might get upset, but hopefully they'll have a laugh at it later.

A couple of times on my old blog, I posted reviews of bots that people were chomping at the bit to know about, things that had been announced but where not even renders had been seen. Every picture was the 'bandwidth exceeded' Photobucket picture. I made the descriptions more and more ridiculous as it went on, to make it VERY obvious.

I said Fansproject Motormaster looked like a shaved bear.

And some people STILL got angry about it.

But a lot of people laughed. :D

So hey, great video! I subscribed!

Zero cheating, no interpenetration, in theory it should work as a toy, it was the original point of the exercise. The animation was just me thinking about what else I could do with it. There are tabs to fit the arms into the torso, space for screws, pins, all articulation is limited to actual range of motion, etc. I'll do a more clear walkthrough when I get time later this week.

i think at the very least you could post that it is a fake fan fic video in the title before it shows up everywhere.

you made it seem like it was a legitimate sample tease at first. i dont care either way because it ended up being BS. but still a proper tag would be helpful before it spreads to other places.

Awesome work love the homage sound effects, for a min a thought it was a 3rd party legends blitz then the animation kicked in and was more impressed by the entertainment.
