My versions of the Dynobots

I am in the middle of building versions of the 5 Dynobots. I loved Don's designs for The War Within era Dinos, so i decided to design my own.

I will eventually get round to building 40 more Dinobots of my own, including some suggested by others here on this very forum. Slag will lead the Demolitions Team, Sludge the Marines, Snarl the Infantry and Swoop the Flying corps.

anyway.....

Grimlock is a Heavy Battle Tank. The main turret is supposed to be like his Dino version's firearm, and it will detach to be carried in his robot mode. Instead of his little tiny arms, he now has triple barrelled cannon.

Slag is now a Military Grade Bulldozer/Backhoe. Instead of horns he has thermal lances designed to melt whatever hes ramming into. The backhoe is in place of a tail and the bucket of which will form his crotch plating (this is the result of a drunken conversation/rant with a friend about ROTF Devastator's robo-testicles.)

Sludge is a huge Amphibious Mortar. An engine for each wheel allows him to adjust his targetting as his mortar tube does not rotate, it only elevates.

Snarl is a Medium Battle Tank, His cannon becomes his sidearm in robot mode, just like Grimlock. Solar reflectors on his flanks allow him to boost his speed/strength, just like his Dino version.

Swoop is a Strike Jet. I think that flying alt modes would have been quite rare before the war (in the G1-verse, at least). So I wanted to refer to this common heritage by having aspects of Starscream, Jetfire and of course Dino Swoop in the design.

I'll put their robot modes up when I am done.

Very awesome, I love the visible connections I can see with grimlock, swoop, and snarl. I would have liked to see a bit more of that for the others, but there's still alot there regardless. Anyway very much looking forward to more!

Thanks again everyone!! Just a quick 'bump' to say that I've just uploaded Grimlock's robot mode.

I relaise that the '(Alt modes only)' part of the thread no longer rings true, but I'm buggered if I can change it!!!

What software did you use? Great looking Grimlock you got there.

 

Its 3DS Max 2009.....Not that good with it really, more of a hobby than anything else. One of the reasons I use 'Ink and Paint' materials (a.k.a. cell shading) is that it makes anything you model look better!!!!

And while I'm here......have a bit of Sludge's robot mode.

 

Wow, these are totally awesome!   I love how you incorporated Slag's spikes in as treads.  

 

Apologies for not getting Snarl and Swoop's robot modes up yet, but the weekend flew by!! i reckon they should be done by tomorrow.
