There was that one thread about people's PS2's not being able to read games anymore... Mine suffered a similar fate... Until tonight... Viv found these two sites for me... I opened mine up, did the simple correction, and VIOLA!!! Games are now back online!!! Here are the links: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/2 And here: http://www.tweak3d.net/articles/ps2repair/3.shtml There might be a slight difference in opening up your PS2... Mine was different from the ones displayed on those two sites... I didn't have to take off the bottom cover... I just unscrewed it, flipped it over and took off the top... BUT BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO!!! There is a thin silver strip that connects the main part of the machine to the on/off button and tray eject on the top lid... SO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TAKE OFF THE TOP LID!!! Other than that, the process is REALLY simple... Just follow the directions and your PS2 should be back on track!!! Good luck!!!
glad you got it fixed. my ps2 used to be the same, when playing video clips in games they used to skip, jutter and crash my machine. actually the only game that was affected really was transformers. that sucked.
My friend had a PS2 that wouldn't read DVD's a while ago. I took it apart and cleaned the laser lense and she has had no problems since. I just used some (camera type) lense cleaner and a Q-tip. I didn't use a guide I just went in and did it. The cleaning itself was no diffrent than the jukeboxes I work on.
I did the lens cleaner thing but apparently my PS2 didn't have a problem with the laser... It was more the angle the laser track was on... Which is why I had to adjust the dial inside it...
As long as it got fixed. Just posting my personal experiences. Any system fixed is a good system. I did once have to adjust a pot on my PSX ribbon cable so that I could play Capcom games. I'm not sure why it wouldn't play Capcom games before the adjustment but it does now so I have no compaints.
I'm bumping this, to thank razerwire for posting these links on the forum. these guides are EXACTLY what I've been looking for. thanks.
Wish I would've known this 2 PS2's ago. Will be ready when the third one goes, thanks! Will be like CELLO!
