So my MP-10 is done. I purchased the US version from TRU years ago. Soon after I got it Optimus decided to take a header off my desk and onto the tile floor. One of its fagile headlight peices broke off. While it could still transform and I could put the broken piece back into place when in alt mode so I was willing to live with it. Then last night Optimus decided to take another header this time one of the smoke stack broke off. I'm not really interested in trying to fix it and I am willing to spend the money and replace it but my question is how should I replace it? 1. Should I replace the entire thing with another US version? 2. Should I replace the entire thing with a takara version so I get the box and it matches the rest of my MP collection? 3 should I replace just the cab with an original version? 4 should I replace just the cab with a KO version? 5.should I just forget about MP-10 and get MP-44?
Of the G1 coloured MP-10 releases I always found the Hasbro release to be the least interesting. To me it was: TT > YotH > Hasbro. I'd definitely go for the TT version, especially since prices might have dropped with people exchanging it for the new MP Optimus. Although less cartoon accurate, I think the TT colours are much nicer. Normally I'd say that a KO is good for spare parts, but not sure that's worth it: the price difference isn't that big with an official. Alternatively, there was an upgrade set for Optimus with new (bulkier) smokestacks and riffle.
If you have the funds get MP44. Or you can sell off MP10 for parts. If you really are attached to the mold, then go for the MP10 Takara version. Avoid ebay unless you know the vemdor or better yet go for either known sources like bbts, TFsource or RK. Some pre owned MP10 Takara are very good state of use if purchased from Japan.
Go for 3rd Party options if your looking for good bang-for-your-buck. Check out Transform Element TE-01 or Magic Square MS-01. I have both (as well as several official MP-10 mold figures) and they are fantastic figures and great representations of Optimus Prime.
Hang on, here. You have an MP-10 with a busted headlight and broken smoke stack, but everything else is good? It's your figure, though based on what you've described, with some appropriate repairs, he's still GTG. That said, if you want your recent localized gravitational anomalies to trigger a new MP OP purchase, go for it. Be mindful that the newer ones have a very different aesthetic and feel to them, regardless of whether you go TT or 3P.
So a headlight and smokestack broke, and you want to replace the whole figure?? Get a KO and swap parts.
Find another broken on on the Junkion Exchange forum or ebay etc, and just replace the parts. Or buy a whole new figure. It's up to you.
7. Lie him on a table and reenact his death scene from TFTM. Fun for the whole family, especially the kids.
MP44 is where it's at if you're into show accurate stuff. Really gorgeous and fun Figure. Costs a pretty penny though, so he's not for everyone.
This is what I would do. If there's a question as to what to do, you probably still like the figure enough to keep it.
I'd recommend a knock off MP-44 when it is availible, or get TE-01 if you only care for a clean bot mode. MS-01 is really an upgraded MP-10, so if you just wanna stick with something familiar, just go with MS-01. Or you could wait for this guy.
