As you all know i bought all the 17 hardcovers that are out to date and i started reading them these last days. The first story "megatron origins" i thought was pretty mediocre actually. Probably because i had
some trouble in just getting a grip of what was happening in the panels actually. Overall it was ok.

The second story "Blurr" was also just ok as with the third "cliffjumper". Then i got to the Simon Furman
stuff and OH BOY! The "Shockwave" story was really good imo and the following "nightbeat" story blew
me away. Simon Furman seems to really do wonders for the transformers so far for me.

He can´t be the guy responsible for the gay transformers and SJW moments later on can he?
I really enjoyed his stories... more than the others.

Cybertronians cannot be gay because they don’t have organic genitalia. That’s kind of a requirement for homosexuality.

One masculine Cybertronian having a romantic relationship with another masculine Cybertronian does not make them gay. Neither does two feminine Cybertronians in a romantic relationship.

Because they’re not organic. If they were organic beings, then they would be gay.

Yes! Technically you are right. But having these robots fall in love with each other, holding hands etc is imo
just stupid. I feel i personally don´t want that. I have not gotten around to this stuff so i don´t really
know how it is being presented.

Are there more of these SJW moments in the TF comics?

They're not true robots either though, despite the tagline. They're metal people.

Once you actually get into the romance, you'll find it's a lot more "OH GOD PLEASE DON'T DIE" than "omg lets hold hands uwu". Even as early as Eugenesis James Roberts had a thing for pairing two characters off so one could get spooked by the other being in mortal peril, although then it wasn't explicitly romantic. All the other complaints are about two or three panels in Lost Light that address a continuity error between Spotlight Arcee and Megatron Origin.

Also yeah, it is mostly Furman's fault that there were gays in TF, because he made it so there was canonically only one female TF and that wasn't retconned until years after MTMTE already started. Not directly, but a lot of it is because of Spotlight Arcee's weirdness.

I'm pleased to inform you that basically all the major ongoing comics from "Phase 2" involve romance storylines at some point or other, frequently with M/M and F/F couples. If that's gonna give you the heebie-jeebies, IDW G1 is probably not the Transformers series for you!

The romance and "SJW" moments are all very well done, and add great depth to the world and the characters and should be applauded for their foward-thinking ideals and representation.

Simon Furman's run is wonderful, if a little bit oddly paced at times. The first two -ations in my opinion are a bit slow but theyre still good reads. After those the momentum picks up very well.

Ok, well i hope this does not get stupid and forced on to the reader. I love me a little bromance among the characters,
the "brothers in arms" kind of romance or rather friendship. I saw a panel with some robots holding hands and that got me worried.
I hope they are very well integrated into the story. I want to love these comics and so far i really do.

The "female" bots, i hope they do not write them too feminine and having relationships with other "fem bots". These are supposed
to be "warriors". I really hope all this does not scare me away from these comics. I have bought all the 18 hardcovers so far
so i´m kind of worried of whats to come....

Just open your mind a little, stop getting your knickers in a twist over the idea of 'SJW' stuff, and you'll be fine. There is some romance in the stories, but it's only one plot strand. If it's not your thing, then there's always plenty of other stuff going on.

Thank you:)  I see that Simon Furman has become a polarizing figure in the TF realm. Kind of like the lost light arc. I´m really
looking forward to having the entire IDW run in hardcovers.

This is not entirely the case. Sexual/romantic orientation is often based more on gender identity, a construct that exists separate from biological sex. For example, there are transgender women who have not undergone HRT/sex reassignment surgery who are still attracted to other women. This still means they are gay (or another WLW orientation, but that comes down to each individual's personal identity).

I remember during the MTMTE / Lost Light run, one guy here was so scared of buying a Transformers comic which had “gays” in.

I just want publishers and storytellers to keep politics (yes this includes SJW stuff) out of comics and
older established franchises. If they want to politicize some comics then create new franchises with
this in mind, don´t mess with already established ones.

I don´t even know how this "gay" stuff plays out because i have not read so far yet but i have had some support and kind words in
this thread telling me it´s not THAT bad. So i´m hopefull i can deal with it and it hopefully does
not ruin my time spent wit these comics.

if gay characters ruin your experiences then you sound like some sort of... snowflake? that can't handle the real world. maybe you need a safe space.

Um. Yes. I believe most of the MTMTE and Lost Light books would meet that...description.

I can't speak for the O.P., but it seems like he just may not want these previously-written-as-asexual-and-genderless characters and this mythos to be ascribed sexuality (as humans understand it), genitals, genders/sex.

It's a bit odd that you (sort of?) lumped him in with millennials and Gen-Zers that tend to be about super-tolerance (unless it's opinions they don't share) and radical leftism. Just amusing, is all.

Hey man, the various phases of the IDW-verse(s) are, well, varied. Did you say you bought many hardcover collections from IDW??

I found transgender Cybertronians to be going too far in humanising them. Transgender humans are fine, that’s a thing that happens. But a robot can’t transition from one gender to the other when it wasn’t even a biological gender to begin with.

We refer to some vehicles and machines with female pronouns as a sign of affection, but that doesn’t mean those vehicles and machines are biologically female.

Writers can’t just write Transformers comics as if the characters are human without exploring what makes them not human.
