As the title says, my dog died as I was taking him to the animal hospital Tuesday night.

I noticed he was breathing a little funny, but he was alert, wagging his tail, and not acting like anything was wrong. Just huffing a little harder than normal (he's a pug, so huffing and snorting are usually pretty commonplace).

My wife and I loaded him into the back of the Jeep, and within a couple of minutes he was gone. Literally died on the way to the vet. I assume if we had made it, they probably would've told us there wasn't much they could do.

He would've been 11 this year. Him and I both have the same birthday, so it's usually a fun day for both of us. CAKE & PRESENTS!!!!

Anyways, here's a pic. He was such a handsome boy back in his prime. Check him out smiling for the camera!

Oh christ, that is beyond terrible. So very sorry to hear, man.

He was a cute lil' guy. It doesn't make it any better, but I am glad that you did at least get a good 11 years with him.

It's not fair that we get such limited time with our fur kid companions.

:rip  These types of dogs are prone to health problems and don't live as long as other breeds. 11 years was a good ride for him.

Actually, very recently there was an article in the local newspaper, dog looked like twin to yours died on the way to ER vet on NY eve. The dog was acting sick, then started to seizure in the car. So the guy started freaking out I guess, ended up crashing the car into a pole and dog died. Kudos to you for keeping your cool in the car at such an emotional time.

Thanks. Hardest part is the kids. They're all bummed out. They basically grew up with him.

Sorry to hear that. Having pets is hard because of the inevitable, but 11 years sounds like a nice, long life.

Yeah, it's never easy. The greatest part is having a pet to grow up with, but of course the equal hardest part is losing them. I still remember losing my first childhood pup.

When the time is right, though, a new addition will definitely help heal that wound. For all of you.

    Sorry for your loss.

I fear it’s a loss I’ll soon feel for the first time myself... my dog is 13(hell, his mothers still alive). He’s going strong still, but with his rotten teeth and all the bumps he gets on his body, I feel it’s just a matter of time.

If anything, I’m hoping he goes peacefully in his sleep... doesn’t mean it won’t hurt any less.

Have no idea how my other dog is going to take it though.

My deepest condolences. It's the hardest part of having a pet. They're not pets, they're family members.

Sorry for your loss. Dogs are awesome pets/family members. My dog will turn 12 this year and I don't want to lose her but she will go someday and eventually I would have to accept it.
