Here is a custom re-paint I have done. Let me know what you guys think. I used Acrylic with a non-yellowing Poly coating.
I think its on the right track mostly, but its nowhere near finished bro, there are alot of details in the mechanical parts that you missed, like the center of his chest(its not supposed to be red) same as his feet, and his rib cage side armor parts are supposed to be blue, the biceps armor below the red shoulder piece has blue with flames(as long as its blue it looks much better trust me), and the joint at the elbow has to circles with rings(rings gold and circles blue). The rear panels that you detailed look great. I dont know if you are going for a movie accurate look but those are my suggestions (yes i take my own advice lol Im currently painting the truck mode). Love what you did so far and i look forward to seeing more work from you bro
I wasn't going for movie accurate. Just wanted to put a lot of detail in a figure that would benifit from it. Thanks for the tips.
I agree, take this thing to the next level man!! When I first started customizing, I remember looking at my ROTF Leader Prime with intimidation because I thought I'd never be able to paint one. Anyway, after a while and a few customs, I got around to it and now it's like gimmee another one, and another one, and another one, lol.
I still think you have not tapped your potential just yet. If not movie accurate, then make something everyone will know you for
impressive man, try using Testors Enamels, they're great for detailing also, and the colors are rich. I admire your patience painting all those details
i like the understated-ness of it. it has some nice details picked out and it looks very interesting. i like your creative interpretation.
Thank you all for the support, praise, and criticism. I plan on doing many more customs in my future. I still not sure about going with the movie look. I like the creativeness of a one off. Enamels I do want to try. I also want to do more airbrushing. This was some airbrushing and a lot of paint brushing. I would like to try some lacquer paints as well. Are enamels pretty easy cleanup in a paintbrush gun?
I wouldn't think so. I worked heavily with enamels for years (and I LOVE them), but now that I recently got an airbrush I'm experimenting with acrylics because I don't want to put enamels through my airbrush. They're tough to get cleaned out of my paintbrush (and require cleaning asap or the brush gets ruined). I can't even imagine getting them out of the airbrush. My tentative plans are to keep using enamels for detail work and spray paint some of the time, but when the airbrush makes sense I'm trying acrylic with an enamel clear gloss spray paint coat to finish it off (assuming I want it shiny). That being said, people do use enamels in air brushes and they do manage to clean it out. There's no reason you can't do it, but if you try it proceed very carefully (and make absolutely certain you've got the right cleaners BEFORE you start, or you WILL ruin your airbrush).
Enamels are best for brushes, and like Harrismonkey said, they are tough to clean up if not done immediately for the sake of the brushes so they dont get ruined. Acrylics are your best friend when using an airbrush. I personally started with enamels, and mostly thats what i stick with even for vehicle mode(i found ways to smoothen the surface). Looking forward to your next project
Thanks again all. I am working on a G1 Jetfir re-paint right now. Adding some detail of my own of course.
