As far as I can tell, this is allowed according to the rules. They said we could post a WIP. At this point, I doubt anyone could take my idea and build it better. Heck, there's not time for the paint to dry. Mine's not gonna be dry enough when I assemble it for pics tomorrow. When the contest started, I was buying a house so I was busy packing. Then I was moving. Then I was unpacking. Then I was getting ready for Botcon. So I've been working on this less than 3 weeks. I wish I had more time given how much bashing I had to do. This project had a lot of firsts for me. First time using sculpting putty, first time doing major cutting with a dremel, first time using PVC pipe for material. I wish I had more time to smooth things out and getting a better finish, but it's due tomorrow by midnight. Here he is completely painted, but still unassembled. Hopefully the paint will have cured enough tomorrow that I can assemble it without too much paint rubbing off. See if you can guess what I made him from. **Edit** Done some assembly. All I can do tonight. The blue Krylon Fusion is still a bit soft. Last time I used it, it took 9 days to cure and be good and solid, and durable enough to withstand reassembly without dulling. I don't have that kind of time. It's gonna get some sun tomorrow, and I'll do the best I can to get it together without scuffing it up too much. **EDIT** Finished pics below
Finished assembling him this morning. No pics. Tonight I'll do some final paint aps and start taking pics for the contest.
Man, it seems like you really procrastinated on starting this? Anyway, This looks the most like Boombox so far imo
I didn't procrastinate. I put a contract on a house at the beginning of May. Had inspections and packing eating my free time until the closing at the end of May. Then I moved and spent all of June unpacking and getting ready for Botcon. After the con, my daughter came to spend a month with me. I couldn't start this until July, and my free time was mostly spent with my kid. I've had very little time to get this done. Unless something happens to keep me from getting home before midnight, I'll make the deadline. Thanks for the compliment. I tried to replicate him as precise as possible.
Very nice. I kicked around the idea of making a boombox for the contest but just didn't have time. The classics Prime mold was my top choice for Boombox, I'm glad someone else used it then. Good luck.
Thread posted in the contest forum. Made the deadline, and even had time to get creative with the pictures.
Since the contest thread is closed, anybody want to offer up some critique of my finished work in this thread? Thoughts on the finished product?
I really love that you finished it in time, but in some areas it looks a bit rushed. If you take your time on this, it'll be great!
Besides being a little rough in some ares ( like where I sanded the putty ) from rushing, what else do you think I needed to do differently? What else looks rushed?
would love to offer some feedback -can u post the completed pics in here so we can see more? The only bit I can see off hand is the curved part on the front of his right leg (our left) looks a bit left and uneven from the other leg... though that may be the camera angle.
