'Murder Hornets' Have Officially Been Spotted in The US. Here's What You Need to Know I have seen them on the National Geographic and they are dangerous.
I saw earlier that a worrying amount of people have been taking photos of bumblebees they've killed and sending them to the Washington State Agriculture Department all "omg are these murder hornets?!!!", how in the entire fuck are there people out there that don't know what bumblebees look like?
I heard multiple stings (around 20-30) from those things can kill a person (their sting is like the sensation of a hot nail poked in your skin) And they made it in certain countries like Italy, France, Belgium and Spain
If you’ve got a spare hour, this is a superb documentary about Asian giant hornets and honey bees. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x15djt3 One of the concerns with them being introduced to North America (aside from, y’know, just giant fucking hornets) is that they prey on honey bees, and our species of bee ostensibly have no defense against them. In Asia, however, they evolved alongside one another, and the native bees’ defense against the hornets is to literally cook them alive when they breach a beehive. Fascinating stuff.
Yeah, they've been there since 2004. Came with a shipment of pottery from China to France, and they've been on the move ever since. I believe they have been spotted in England as of last year.
Well, I don't think they will be interested in places like Nevada or Arizona deserts. Maybe not semi-arid places like southern CA (at least I hope not.) They don't seem to like cooler places or steppes, otherwise you would think they would have migrated between China and across Russia over the past millennia or so. They seem to prefer forests like you find in Japan. But you know, "nature finds a way" to survive in manners you would not expect sometimes...
Yeah, my county has been on the lookout for them since late last year, being up here in the northwest corner of the northwest state. They're coming over on all the boats we and Canada get from Asia. You know what's worse about people killing bumblebees right now, thinking they're the hornets? Only the new queens are out right now, looking for nesting spots. By killing them the stupid people are killing entire colonies of innocent beneficial insects before they're even born. --Moony
