As I was watching Transformers G1 More Than Meets The Eye ep.3, I noticed that after the Decepticons ship crashed in the Ocean, the Autobots re-fulled their ship and took the energy they needed to revitalize Cybertron, they were ready to blast off and return home. But for some reason they didn't why? what happened for them not to return?

    Thanks

I'm guessing the Ark was too damaged maybe?

The powers that be decided to turn this miniseries into a full series. The next episode is also when the Autobots forgot they could fly.

I guess it's true what they say about your memory as you get older.

The following episode was originally scripted to have the Autobots about to blast off, when the Decepticons re-emerged, causing them to decide to stay and protect Earth. Straightforward, really.

And what ever happened to all the energy that they received from the people of Earth as a thank you gift?

I always assumed the Autobots powered the Ark off the energy of the active volcano they were crashed in. I can't imagine the energy they were gifted by the people of Earth would really last that long.
There was one hell of an epic party. Afterwards Huffer and Brawn vowed to never speak of it again.

I seemed to notice them remembering this during various different episodes, only to forget again later, depending on who was writing the episode at the time.

    CONSISTENCY.

It was used to fight the Decepticons instead, and basically was the foundation of the resources of the Autobot war effort for the next 20 years.
