    85. Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye
    Written by James Roberts
Art by Brendan Cahill, Alex Milne
    Published by IDW Publishing

"One of the greatest accomplishments in comics is overcoming a ridiculous core conceit and delivering stories and characters that endure and shine. Larry Hama did it with 'G.I. Joe' at Marvel, and one day we will all speak in the same reverent tones about James Roberts' enormously powerful work on 'Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye.' Not content to write stories about giant robots smashing together, his scripts instead delve deeply into their motivations and their origins, fleshing out millions of years of Cybertronian history and culture with the deftness and efficacy of a few brush strokes. Adding brilliant concepts like shadowplay, empurata and conjunx endura to the Transformers lexicon -- the latter being one of the most subtle signs of alliance for the LGBTQ community in comics -- as well as using them to fuel plot threads resolved years down the line speaks of Roberts' creativity and focus. This series is among the best science fiction being published today, and Roberts is an unparalleled talent, ably assisted by visual titans who take the sometimes messy challenge of detailed giant robots and make each one distinctive and give even the faceless expression.

Yeeeah boi! It's awesome seeing MTMTE getting it's fair share of accolades and getting on so many year end lists, seems like interest from the wider comics world really picked up on it over 2015.
It has the #8 spot on Comixology US and UK's Best of 2015 lists as well

I've heard the Transformers comic have gotten very good now. I haven't read IDW's Transformers since All Hail Megatron, but I will catch up eventually. To busy reading many of the 84 above it in this list ;)

Eh, I'm still not really sure what exactly the relationship is between Cyclonus and Tailgate. It certainly feels very different from Chromedome and Rewind.

I'll agree it's gotten a bit worse the past few issues, but I did mostly enjoy the latest -- outside of it basically ignoring how the last one concluded.

I remain hopeful. Barber's comic is phenomenal right now though, so I'm not hurting too badly for quality TF comics!

How many comic series are released in 2015? #85 still seems pretty far down the list.

Very Nice. He deserves it, some of the best fiction the franchise has had.

You'll all going to get mad at me again, but look... it just isn't.
What Roberts is doing with Transformers is far more fitting for Go-Bots (that thingy Hasbro keeps sitting on, pretending it doesn't exist).

And the comparison with Larry Hamma's G.I. Joe is absolutely ludicrous. Furman's 80's G1 stories are on that level, not Roberts TF stories.

I've followed and read it since IDW took transformers to a new era, and I'm very proud to be a loyal fan. MTMTE is the most deserving of the recognition
