This is EXACTLY what I was wondering; as I read the issue, I had both Chaos Theory and Shadowplay right in front of me for cross-referencing. Also, wow, Whirl's had some big revelations in the last few months. First the revelation that he's not as badass as he thought, but rather he's alive because of Megatron, and now this reveal that Spoiler the Functionists were behind everything that happened to him, because some bureaucrat made the mistake of letting him be a watchmaker
Why the hell would Rung be Vos? We see them both simultaniously existing halfway across the galaxy several times, and if you say "past Rung getting electroshock therapy = foreshadowing" one more time, guess what? That Rung still exists, he just missed out on the bar fight. Also, on the topic of Slaughterhouse: duplicate Rung DIED in the initial jump. How can he notify the DJD from the dead?
That could be a real big mind-fuck. Spoiler The glorious Megatron is actually a .01% spark from 4 million years in the future sent to the past and inserted in the body of Megatron, and Megatronus who would become Megatron originally was actually a poet who would be erased from the annals of history forever. Or something to that effect.
GUH. Mind keeps being blown with all these theories and connections floating around in this thread. I don't know why I never connect any of these things when reading, LOL.
If the theory is true, I think the implication is more that Spoiler 'our' Megatron, the poet-turned-leader, always was that .01% from the future, as like all the other scenes so far all the crew did was reaffirm what was already true. So basically..the original Megatron at creation was just going to be another random nobody, not having any historical significance whatsoever. Unless it's Terminus. In which case it's Terminus is Roller is Tarn is Rewind. Not having the scene in front of me now, but weren't those part of Megatron's altmode? His build is being finalized, and those parts just haven't been attached yet.
Just pulled up the page and zoomed in. Brainstorm's just standing on a vent/grate. EDIT: Whoops, misunderstood "tracks." I see the treads sitting in the background now. Yeah, those're definitely Meg's alt mode treads. Match up with the scene of Megs sitting in the bar with Impactor. Two spikes at the end of each give it away.
what i find interesting is not that rung is actually future rung, but instead that back when chaos theory came out in 2011, the conversation between megatron and impactor didn't mean much to us, until now, after 2 seasons it all makes sense now. my future prediction is .1%er megs is actually tarn
I told Roberts at TFcon that I wasn't accepting "Brainstorm is a Con" at face value. I could tell something was going through his mind but he just said "Hmm....OK" in this "Just wait and see how wrong you are" tone. Now that it looks like the Luna 2 spark is Megatron, well I'm one issue away from going "called it"
I wonder who was the moderate in the Functionalist Council. It´s also worthy of notice that apparently they exerted control even of the senate for longer than we thought. Did we ever knew how the got killed/deposed or if they were killed at all?
Well, I'm assuming that the moderate wasn't a member of the Council itself but rather a mid-level bureaucrat in the apparatus. I'm curious how the Council got ousted, even, that said. What was the political play within the Senate that removed their control?
I have a theory. Perhaps the Functionalist Council was never ousted at all. Maybe as soon the war went on, the deiced to use the Senate as the "sacrificial lamb" for the Decepticon outrage and themselves went into hiding with the aid of agents like Brainstorm and the Necrobot. The Heavies said that the Council controlled the Senate, so perhaps once the Senate stopped being useful it got thrown under a bus.
Well, we know in the other timeline, the Senate got eventually overthrown by the Council and all the dirty experiments they were doing got exposed. Not to mention I have trouble seeing guys like Ratbat as Council stooges; he comes across to me as just corrupt for his own sake, not for someone else's. But the idea that the Council is still out there is an intriguing one. We probably haven't met S2's main antagonists, after all.
Curse you all and your in-story logic! I know, it really doesn't add up, but I can't stop seeing it. I don't think present day Rung is Vos, so not too sure on the LL2 points, but all this circumstantial has to be adding up to something. Or possibly huge misdirects. Who knows. EDIT: Also Rung 2 dies before Slaughterhouse. Anyyyyway.....! Questions: - What's the significance of Brainstorm observing Quark in the same page where he observes future Rung? - What's with all the purple thunder in the panels with the Heavies around Chromedome and the other lot? - Is Megatron being forged or constructed? Throwback/forwards: - Nightbeat asking 'There's a type?' like in #33, like in #22 - Megatron saying 'So what's the answer? Accept our lot? Spend all our surface time getting tanked up on low-grade energo---' which is what his current life is like. Fun stuff: - Percy calls Brainstorm a genius. Citation found! - Rodimus's 'Where's Rewind when you need a camera?' in the middle of all that mayhem is hysterical. - 'I'm an optimist by nature' followed by the understatement of the year coming from Magnus? - It was lovely how Ultra Magnus's database was shown to be overwritten. I first read that as him being confused about Megatron's presence and what he makes of it and him. Realised later what was actually happening. - Tailgate is small enough to fit in Cyclonus's pilot seat. - Rewind makes use of his alt mode. In a way. - 'They stopped me working' was a rather Sylar turn of phrase. Other stuff: - Cyclonus & Tailgate. I don't care if it's friendship or more (looks like more), but I love how comfortable around each other they look in this issue. - Whirl had such lovely, delicate fingers
