Theve been silenced for a while indeed! I didnt knew they are part of Wei jiang...
Now that there's any upgrade kit available I'm wondering if I should just get the official and the kit...
You probably should get it comes with a piece that fixes the shoulder problem and it holds them in place.
There is a new kick by DNA that seems to do that!
Hi. First time poster/long time lurker here. I'm not sure if im even posting correctly but I've wanted to toss in my two cents on mpm ironhide from the day it was revealed. My biggest problem with the figure is it's face. I'm not sure if it's just a trick of the light in this photo but the sculpt really looks off in comparison with the cgi. There are specific angles that the mpm head looks good at but just looking straight at it is just odd.
i think the head looks alright compared to actual movie shots
Yes it looks a little different but to me it’s close enough. There are many things to deal with when making something out of moulded plastic and they may have been forced to compromise to make it manufacturable. If it was a much larger figure with more parts for the head it may have turned out more accurate.
I think it’s amazing they got as many details right as they did like the little scratches above his right eye and the way his centre forehead is dented on one side etc.
The other trick is that when scaling objects down like that, you also tend to have to exaggerate certain features for the details to come through.
It looks like all the major shapes and details are in the right place, just that a number of cuts and planes are made a lot deeper on the toy so that they stand out better.
Looks accurate to me, I don’t see what’s off about it. Welcome aboard, btw!
I had never considered compromises having to be made on a head sculpt. It makes sense that some of the more intricate details aren't spot on (i feel kind of silly for not thinking of that sooner). I know you didn't ask but if I had the means to improve the sculpt I would make the chin a bit larger, make those circular bits on the side of the head flush with his face and make the two studs on his bottom jaw a tad smaller. I still am impressed with how the figure looks as a whole.
I do agree with you but i think what bugs me about the face is that some small bits were too exaggerated. I know it sounds nitpicky but if i could change the sculpt I would make those circular parts on the side of the head more flush with the head and I'd also want to make those two stud bits on his lower jaw a bit smaller. I think just those small things would improve the overall look imo
Wait for an improved mold
Had been seven months since his release, idk if we will see something new
Friendly reminder that I'm selling this guy complete if any of y'all want him. Just PM me!
Picked up a KO of this guy recently (just a straight KO, I think) and I've been having a fiddle with the shoulders. It's not perfect, but I've found a couple of possible solutions to get them to stay together more solidly.
Option one is to wedge the rectangular tab between the tab socket and the inner body, rather than going into the tab socket itself, and then once you push the hood halves together it seems to be more solid than using the actual tab. Tried to highlight what I mean in the first picture with the red outlines, 'X' for the normal socket and the tick for where i mean. (If you can see the PhotoBucket watermarks, they're inside the camera on the left.)
Option two is to ignore the tab and the normal appearance of the chest entirely and rotate the chest pieces inwards and wedge them in place, so the wheel wells face forward. It's surprisingly solid despite only using friction, and this has the advantage of moving the arm attachment location to the outside of the body. It's not even that inaccurate - in certain poses that's what his chest should look like, as shown in the 'Mexican Standoff' scene from DOTM.
General question BTW: Is Ironhide's ab crunch at all necessary for the transformation? About the only real flaw on my KO is the floppy crunch, and I was considering just gluing it together to make the figure more stable and less likely to slip out of alignment during transformation, but I don't want to have missed something in the transformation where the abs have to bend in a click or two to make it work.
The crunch isnt needed in the transformation.
Hi. There is an OS KO by BMB coming.
Oversized KO MPM Ironhide
I am sick of all these OSKOs give us regular or undersized KOs.
I’m sick of KOs in general.
That's too big for what I'm after. Hopefully it will spur a Black Apple version.
