Loving how everybody's shooting this figure down without actually handling it first.. I mean, yeah, the recent MP figures haven't been amazing, but at least give the figure a chance before crucifying it..? If I get the chance I'll certainly order one. I'm giving it more credit than it probably deserves, but the alt mode doesn't look as terrible as people are saying, and this figure 'does' seem to have a removable Matrix, which is always a plus in my books..
So who knows? This figure might surprise you.

 

So when do PO’s go up on Target?

 

As long as it doesn\'t have a fake chest or other such cheating, I might get it. 

 

I’m all in for this. I have Freedom Leader and while it looks “better” it’s nowhere close to being play friendly let alone able to transform without pulling your hair out. This one actually looks fun!

 

Haha...yeah. If they could incorporate some kind of fenders over the rear wheels, I think it would help a ton. I’m also assuming the cat ears are a mistransformation.

 

Something about this just feels off, and I'm not just talking about the cat ears. The headsculpt proportions are all wrong, it's too skinny vertically and the antennas are too thick. His arms could have been slimmed down too. The fact that this is exclusive to Target is embarrassing because either the stores will either not get them, or it'll be on clearance within weeks. The cat ears appear on the front boxart so I doubt it's mistransformed.

 

I don't know about that, because both the stock images as well as screenshots with people handling the figure also have the cat ears.

 

Oof, I can't unsee the tabs in the feet. That's just so not elegant.



I really wanted them to knock it out of the park, but I see more issues the more I look at it.

On the flip side, I do like what they did with the shoulder articulation. Might allow the arms to raise higher to the side.

 

The proportions are off in distractingly subtle ways, as well as silly things like the shoulders not being part of the arm.

These problems with proportions and stuff wouldn't be so bad if it was, say, in service of a good truck mode, but clearly few concessions were made for that.

 

if you pay close attention you can see the double bend at the elbow.

They need to relabel this toyline. Masterpiece BS.  

 

These are the kinds of transformers I can't stand. If none of the vehicle parts in bot mode are ACTUAL vehicle parts, there's no point. Movie figures I give some leeway on complicated parts that you just can't do, but when it's primary components like vehicle windows, use the actual pieces.

I get we'll disagree here. But this idea of "you don't have to do it anymore" is horrible. A lot of us still want a transformer that uses at least SOME of its actual parts--really as much as possible--and the primary components first and foremost. Hate MP44, will never buy a pretender shell seeker 2.0, and while BBM Prime needs some improvements, faking all his parts is such a bad answer.

If his pricing is decent, I'll likely be picking one up.

 

Was there any reason they couldn’t make them shorter or find other ways to do without tabs? Seriously, even if people like this design, those tabs are easily the worst parts of the toy.

 

There are some things about this which look really good, there's a lot of fine details and elements not present on the Studio Series figure...

buuuuuut with the Masterpiece name and more importantly with its pricetag you expect stuff like the thigh armor not showing up in vehicle mode, you expect pegs not sticking out the sides of leg parts, less forearm kibble, and a headsculpt that feels like a home run rather than a question mark. I can see collectors who are all-in on this line being happy with it, but it's not for me, I'll stick with the Studio Series figure.

 

Here are my thoughts:

Robot mode (9/10)

• Best proportions we've seen by a long shot on a transforming BumbleBee Optimus Prime. They truly knocked it out of the park!
• Colors looks really great but the blue may be a bit too bright. I'll have to wait and see non-reveal in-hand pics to fully judge.

Truckmode (5/10)

• The cab of the truck looks great but the smokestacks are far too long.
• The back is... something. It looks like it wants to try its best but it's far too long and the shins are way too obvious.

Overall, I am greatly impressed by the robot mode, but the truck mode is underwhelming to say the least. I think I'll wait until I can get this guy at no more then $90. If a third party company comes along and does a robot mode with robot mode proportions this good and a much better truck mode, that will be my MPM-12, but until then, I'll probably cave for this guy.
