...well, i don't know if we constitute a majority, but certainly a significant contingent of us don't care for the current masterpiece design brief...

...the tell will be whether our loss makes enough of a dent in takara's sales to affect their product plans...

After years of doing X and X+ masterpiece figures, I have to guess that they looked at the sales and decided fans preferred the more cartoon accurate X+ versions. If the cost-benefit analysis says it wasn't worth doing both versions, I can't fault them for doing what they are doing, even if it disappoints me (who has only 2 MP figures anyway).

@RodimusSupreme we might as well leave and let the "cartoon deco" cultists have their " alone time".

V3 is worth it. Feels more stable than the TRU release I had. I got a V3 from BBTS's scratch and dent pile last xmas. Toy was perfect, the box had a tiny, 1 cm scratch above the barcode!!!! $20 off for that? Hellz yeah!

I agree, I am not so sure why the elbows were changed from v.1, but he was more solid. They only changed one aspect of his deco and most won't catch it... I've transformed the other versions, but this one I won't because I want the joints in his back to keep tight...

Ha ha ha... Stealing this... Really don't like the slavish cartoon deco... I think it makes them look cheap... More paint or not

So was the final consensus on this reissue that it's good? I'm super tempted to get it just to have an MP Rodimus since I'm starting to think a V2 Rodimus is highly unlikely.

It's good, but not perfect. All the tolerances are good. He can actually hold onto the guns, without them falling out. Everything pegs together securely, with a number of the tentative, shallow tabs on the V1 were modified to be longer with better clutch strength. But he's still got those weird-ass, annoyingly floppy elbows inherited from the Hasbro release that make no sense. They ratchet up solidly, but then separate on the down-stroke for floppy, broken-armed ragdoll action. They're also ugly, because they don't actually cover the ratchet joints, leaving all that mess exposed. And then this version introduced a new weird wrinkle in which his pelvis and rear skidplate are molded in the orange plastic instead of the red, sticking out like a sore thumb.

For the elbows, I think it's been said that you can glue the parts together to prevent the floppiness, although that doesn't solve how ugly they look.

For me, personally, I bought this version on sale last year, and then spliced the elbows and some of the few odd assemblies I thought felt better from my V1 onto the new one. Unfortunately couldn't get rid of the orange skidplate, because that's one of the remolded parts that contribute to the vehicle mold holding together much better.

Shame. I wish we did have that perfect MP Hot Rod. MP-28 is close, but the chrome rubs off like crazy and I wish the chest wasn't compromised for the weak-ass Matrix gimmick. I've been playing with it all week after changing the pipes to silver and it's such a fun MP and so close to capturing that on-screen look.

    It's good. But...

    What he said...

I didn't know the butt and skid plates weren't interchangeable... There goes that idea...
Might still look for a v1 elbow though...

There was a guy rebuilding them from v1 and/or from ko sets that no one one I've seen has complained about..

My V1 is also still in tact even transforming him 20+ times I think.
Bought it second hand for 87 Euro's about 5 years ago.
But mine has some use damage now:
    The spoiler is slightly damaged.

And a stressmark on the backcover.

Everything else holds just fine including those stupid issues like he can't hold his own gun(s)o_O
But transforming him is still very scary:confused:

My v1 was transformed but he had the easily detached chest issue, the spoiler would not stay clipped in and the hinge was really loose making it worse, and yeah, he'd hold his guns, but a breeze could knock it off... But his deco was great and he had good elbows.

So I got v3 and those elbows sucked and his but is now orange...

I still have my V1 and love him. He had all the issues - most of them can be addressed with future floor polish. Everything now tabs in solidly. I used a chrome pen to go over the chrome bits and then coated them in future. Also shaved down the part of the trailer that the spoiler slides into. I used future to hold his helmet down closer to his face - looks much better and gets rid of the horse-face look.

It's good. Huge step up from the TRU version, and looks great on display. Orange butt is a non-issue unless you pose your Rodimus mooning Optimus Prime.

The only issue I have is that tabbing of the backpack on my V1. Usually I have to hit that sweet spot so it can hold it in place. No shoulder, knee or ankle issues. Yes, the guns are a pain to attach to the hands but theirs a way to do it. What is a solution to the backpack issue?
