Looking at the MP-36+ toy head, I wish they had made the original head smaller to begin with, it would have helped with the proportions somewhat...

That plastic gun barrel clashes so much with the chrome. They should have made it match the rest of the chrome. Takara is too literal sometimes. Having a "toy accurate" deco doesnt mean that the gun needs to look like an actual kids toy. As seen in the pics below, if Megatron transformed into a real Walther P-38, the barrel would match the rest of the gun.

Why would you want that? Im sure the Diaclone guys wouldnt have made the "crotch trigger" if they had the engineering to hide it back in 1983. Its an eyesore removed in my opinion. Bringing it back totally defeats the point of the MP line. It would be like MP Ironhide having no head or MP Ravage being flat from a front view. Todays engineering really brings the characters to life by making them less toyish looking.

 

I mean I'd start using the blue text, but then almost everything I post would have to be blue  

 

Yeah but you can apply the barrel with no concerns of chipping. I think that’s a good compromise. Also I’m a weirdo who likes $300 versions of gun toys from 1984.

 

Benscollectables made a kit for it. If you want. You can’t do anything with it apart from robot mode.

That is true. But the color of plastic for the barrel chosen could have made a big difference aesthetically. Think Hegemon...

Hmm, which color of ‘brown’ is the real one? The one on display has much lighter color, almost as if it’s grey plastic yellowed by the sun - I greatly prefer the darker shade from the official pics.

MP Megatron is glorious. Don’t need two, but dangit are they making it hard not to double-dip.

 

I see what you mean. I do hope it’s more like the brown seen in pics. It does look really nice though.

 

Takara tends to interpret the term "accuracy" extremely literal to the point where it appears they lack common sense. They often pay homage the unintentional limits of 80s source material in their deco choices. To me thats a fail.

 

Don't forget the shins. The barrel, chest and the shins need to be all in chrome to match a realistic Walter-P-38 gun.

I wasn't a fan of the chrome in the original G1 Megatron toy for this reason. It needs to be all in chrome or not in chrome at all to match a realistic Walter-38 gun. Takara originally released a their G1 Megatron toy without chrome at all. The barrel, chest and shins were the same colour and transforms into a more realistic Walter-38. That is the G1 toy Takara should have based the toy version of MP-36.

When E-hobby released black Megatron years ago, they should have made the barrel and shins also black.

Anyway, I didn't like MP-36 because of its slavish cartoon colours but I was tempted to get MP-36+. I might still get it but the mismatch between the unpainted barrel, shins with the chrome is putting me off. Such a bad decision by Takara.

That said, Takara did a great job with the toy head version with the yellow eyes! That is why I might still get MP-36+.

Then the solution is to get rid of the chrome altogether and make the barrel, chest and shins unpainted plastic with the same colour. Is having shiny chrome really a big selling point?
