Thanks Cheem. From the looks of this, it’s using the new Takara approach. Slap a new coat of paint and a facial feature, reduce the quantity of accessories even if some parts might change, and slap a higher price to it. Things are looking grim at Takara-Tomy with this new practice.

Wow that brownish plastic in gun mode looks really bad. The barrel should have been colored to match the chrome better even if paint wasnt an option due to scratching. I get that it was supposed to have the same deco as "the toy", but was making it look like "a toy" really necessary? They might as well have put an orange plug on him too if they wanted to capture the "this is not a real gun" look so well. I thought chrome on the "toy" was supposed to add realism, but the plastic parts detract from realism. Just like those horrible solid blue "cartoon accurate" windows on the MP Red Alert and Prowl repaints, sometimes Takara takes the term "accuracy" way too literally. They dont seem to get that in 80s animation colors, grey was chosen to represent silver/chrome and allspark blue was chosen to represent the color of clear glass pannels. It wasnt CGI that they could color metallic or clear like they can now in cartoons. So takaras take on "accuracy" in either direction seems more forced than natural.

The only other version of MP Shockwave is
    MP 29.

Those things in the video are accurate to nothing and look like shit.

It does make you wonder how they will hold up. I would be curious just to see how the engineering is done first party and other parties wise.

@Sam , I was wondering about the barrel on this release, too, but it appears to be unchanged, where it either has to point down on the vertical plane or angle out on the horizontal plane. The shot where it appears to be flush and pointing straight at us, it's actually angled down. Check how his torso is angled back where we're getting a bit of an upshot of his chest. The 360 turnaround confirms it, too. Oh well, still cool! And I wasn't gonna get this guy anyway, but I do think it's a bit disappointing that no chrome sword or gun was made for this release, especially since they worked out the chrome hand missile for Cordon.

Looking at the shots of Shockwave+ (beautiful!) and comparing him to my Shockwave in hand, I'm 99% certain the only mold change to the head is the shrunken eye. I think that changes the proportions of his face a bit. That and the square around his eye is much more prominent due to the deco. Man, does all that purple paint look damn great!

...just recognised that the awkward warm gray is likely a slavish match to thirty-five-year-old yellowed plastic, not its original color...

The two-tone on Megs does look a bit off, but I'm sure once I have both of these in hand that I'll be in love. Totally dig the darker Shocky. I do wish Megs at least came with a sword like the Takara G1 version, though.

I think it's based on the 2001 Encore release.

I think the eye is the only thing changed, too. I've looked and looked and can't see any real proportional changes to the head itself.

DML check your FB messages. Or DM me here. I gotta send you back your stuff.. :p

Nah, there’s a difference, can’t find it now but someone did a side by side, and the new head is actually a bit larger among other things.
