This thing is around $250, and is loaded with chrome. Anyone here have any advice on how to take care of chrome so it won't tarnish, scratch, or chip over time?

...some folks carefully swab away dust and fingerprints from new chrome with a microfiber cloth and then give it a protective future-polish clearcoat...

After seeing the images of this repainted (or rather painted) version of Shockwave on this thread and the review by WindCharger I've decided to place an order from a Taiwan eBay seller for $285 AUD, is that a good deal? This includes expedited shipping mind you. I can't find the RRP anywhere but it was the cheapest I could find it. I was tempted to get MP-36 but I have a Soundwave coming in from an Australian online retailer so I just had to get both the waves as my first G1 Masterpieces haha and usually shipping is a pain for me as an Australian buyer so I have to resort to domestic sellers or Asia. I hope this guy isn't a massive QC roulette but so far everyone's copies seems to only have minor issues with paint which is a bit of a shame but he looks great anyway.

...that's about the going price stateside from major retailers, so yes, including expedited shipping that sounds like a pretty good deal...i hear perennial wonder stories about folks scoring major deals directly from asian retailers, but in my experience they've generally been a wash after accounting for shipping costs...

Every time I see MP-36 standing next to MP-10, I'm reminded just how old the MP-10 mold looks in comparison.

It doesn't go with MP-36 at all. I'm actually glad we are getting MP-44.

As do I. Personally I just don't see this enormous difference that others do, they both still look good together to me. If anything MP-44 is even more toon than MP-36, Megatron still has alot of pannel lines and the odd toy detail which breaks up the bare plastic. MP-44 looks straight toon to me. Everyone see's it their own way I guess.

I think MP-36+ displays really well with MP-10 in a G1 toy homage display.
The slightly too long arms of MP-10 really remind me of the G1 toy and the Takara version even has the G1 toy colours.
Only thing that is missing are the yellow eyes.

For those that have or have seen both, I was thinking about ordering the original MP-29 since he is $110 cheaper right now, and he has the added bonus of the shadow fisher light up head upgrade. I think it would be really awesome to have a light up feature. Do you think 29+ would be worth waiting till I had the cash to get him? It would probably be a few years since I'm tight on money right now and I'd rather get cheaper carbots at 29+ prices.

Also note: I like to transform my figures a lot, so paint wear could be an issue for the 29+ version.

Paint wear is normal and from the looks of it the glossy paint is going to be more durable than MP-36 and if it's more durable than that it should be fine. Also there's simply going to be more paint in future releases of Masterpieces (hopefully MP-44's paint is durable since the pricing warrants that). It's your collection so it's ultimately your decision but I think it's worth waiting to get MP-29+ later and get carbots now if you're tight on money. If I were you I wouldn't wait a few years to get it since he's supposed to be an exclusive (and they don't re-issue them or am I wrong?) which is why I got him too, I'd get the carbots but with the Decepticons I think with the limited quantity and how expensive they are as is they'll only get even more expensive while carbots are plentiful and more affordable. If you have the money go for it, otherwise buy the carbots and save up.

There's a little trick you can do: Don't extend the "elbow" section all the way. See the inner arms aren't fully extended like the outer arms are.

I dunno... while I agree that MP-10 doesn't go well with Mp-36, I actually think Mp-10 (especially the darker blue Takara version) goes pretty well with MP-36+. MP-44 is so toon-based that it wouldn't really look right next to this toy-based Megatron... but MP-10 has more of that Hasui toy-based influence. I think they make a nice pair.

Not to mention it single-handedly rebooted the entire MP line into a cohesive entity in terms of scale and design in which every official and 3P MP afterwards was made to adhere to (at least until the shift to major cartoon accuracy).

    I'm glad MP-10 came along too. :)
