i finally got around to opening this guy (bought him when he was 1st released) and he is by far the biggest pile of shitformer ive ever owned, parts fly everywhere when transforming the leg and waist pieces are floppy as hell. he cant support his weight with the fusion cannon. Takara had the balls to call this piece of shit a Masterpiece?
The only Masterpiece toy I think is even that good is Grimlock. Starscream is ok too I guess, but I his smaller henkei version looks more accurate to the G1 cartoon than the Masterpiece does, at least in robot mode.
It's garbage when it's fiddled with which is why I never transformed him and don't fiddle with him too much, even though his right heel is loose.
I don't have MP Megatron, so I don't have an opinion about the figure yet, but, out of all the MPs I do have, I'd say that MP Hot Rod (TRU release) is a good front runner for shittest MP ever.
Not to mention his cosmic rust disease, LOL. I'm afraid to transform him in fear of contamination, hehe. Seriously, I would've preferred the chrome smokestack like MP1/2 on Megatron MP feet. Til this day, those chromes look perfect. As for transformation, yeah, he's very flimsy and parts tend to pop out. I haven't transformed in years since the rust.
I disagree. MP-05 is the only MP that can stand next to MP-04... and a POS can't stand next to the greatest MP ever.
MP-05 is a fantastic figure that could have been better... but it's the best representation of G1 Megatron to date that looks perfect standing on the shelf next to MP-01/04. It does have issues, but they are minor. I have owned the figure for years now, transformed it multiple times, posed it in numerous action poses, and the only thing that went wrong is the LED that somehow died by itself at some point.
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/tutor...tron-shoeshine-aka-no-more-athletes-rust.html There's no reason to fear the toy simply because of that issue. I do think that if Megs had the same kind of chrome that Prime has on his stacks, there'd be more issues with scraps and flaking. I think it's a great Masterpiece figure, but it's got it's problems like any other TF. A problem I see is that a good number of people try to handle Masterpiece figures like their Classics toys. They're just not the same type of beast.
I find MP Megs only looks good when standing next to MP Prime. One it's own, however, it's a bit of a mess. It was a very clever figure transformation & size wise, but despite owning two of them, I still can't deny that it just doesn't look very good with those skinny bisected skinny.
Thanks for the info and link guys. I will try those. Yeah, maybe you're right. I can see that flake and scrape happening whenever his feet collapse.
I had to fix my Megatron's feet. It's more like polishing/cleaning him than anything. I've not had a problem since
He's the only Megatron that could even come close to looking good next to MP-04, because no other Megatron is that size. "Best" doesn't mean much if there's only one thing in consideration.
I'm not a fan of the masterpiece seeker mold. I like the classics mold better. If the masterpiece toy needs to be treated differently because it is a diffrent beast, then it is not the kind of toy I want to buy, especially for masterpiece prices. I think Rodimus was OK, and Grimlock was fantastic. Masterpiece Optimus is as great as far as his G1 design goes.
I think that's my point, though. Masterpieces aren't "toys" as much as Classics are. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're not "toys" at all, but what I am saying is that they are designed more to be "collectibles" and not "played" with as much as Classics are designed to be. Classics are very much designed to withstand the full play that is associated with younger kids playing with toys whereas Masterpiece figures are designed with the collector in mind who simply wants to pose a figure some on a shelf. Comparing Universe 2.0 Starscream to Hasbro's Masterpiece Starscream is an apples and oranges comparison and contrast.
MP-05 is a great transformer. He's excellently engineered, and actually quite fun to transform. I don't know why others have found him such a nightmare. As for the 'cosmic rust' if you took tarnishing metal to be a sign of inferior product then all that antique silver in the world is looking pretty bad. He has his faults, true, but no more than a lot of other transformers (I wish he had a bicep swivel and a more solid wist clip) but he, like most ofther masterpieces isn't really a toy to play with outside of posing and putting on a shelf to display. Seeing as thats all I want him to do, he's awesome. Plus we never thought he'd exist. remember that. He was the toy that 'would never be made'. Appreciate that.
