Even if they're not all available yet, we've seen most of the prototypes. And an official Trailbreaker is most likely to happen one day. I've already made my choice and couldn't be happier, but I'm curious: Which figure(s) are you planning to buy/ did you buy?
Haven't decided yet. I'm still waiting. For Hoist, I fell in love with BC's Lorry immediately. Bought. For Trailbreaker, I like BC's for sure, but I haven't been wowed by any of them enough to buy. That might just be Trailbreaker himself. I am not sure his design makes for a really cool toy, at least to me. Hoist is just weird and fat and really unique, so I love him. Trailbreaker is kinda generic, so you really need to beef him up visually, MP-10-style. The closer they get to his cartoon look, the less I want him. So what am I waiting for?? Takara's?? That'll never scratch that itch.
I'm looking forward to FT and XTB offerings. I'll more than likely go with FT. The ones from BC and OM, just aren't doing it for me.
I have Terraegis already. Holding out on MMC's Hoist until I hear if TT announces anything between Grapple and Artfire.
I voted TT, because I feel like an announcement on that one is close (based on nothing but my own "in my mind" logic). Once I see it, I may go with one of the 3P efforts instead, but I want to see what TT has to offer first. I'm just not in a rush for a trailbreaker at the moment.
I have BadCube's Speedbump, and it is a solid fit into my MP shelf. The transformation is, how shall we say... pure BadCube, and if you have any of their other figures you will know what I mean by that. Preference just boils down to whether or not you are on board with BC's engineering; I have Sunsurge, Wardog, Backland, and Brawny so it was not a surprise to me. Lorry (Hoist) is a little trickier to figure out overall. Looks-wise, alt-mode is dead on with what I want in a MP Trailbreaker, and bot mode is good as well. The face sculpt is also clearly Trailbreaker and has some nice flecked metallic paint look to it.
This is one where I'm holding out for the inevitable Takara version. It's going to be hard to top the MMC version (both modes look SO gorgeous), but I'm hoping Takara can... and will make it bigger since I think all the 3P ones are too short.
Haven't been able to pull the trigger on a BC or MMC Trailbreaker purchase. Just not quite working for me. (though I lean towards BC's bot mode for my MP tastes) I think I'm going to try and stay patient. TT or FT have my money if they deliver the Trailbreaker goods.
All the options revealed so far look great, but I'm waiting to see at least FT's because Trailbreaker isn't a figure I want to wind up with multiples of. If we do get a TT Trailbreaker, my guess is that the look will be controversial but the transformation scheme will be top notch. So maybe I'll even wait that long.
Plan to get both Fans Toys' and the eventual Takara release. Looking forward to rolling Fans Toys signature heft around on rubber tires.
TB is actually not the big question mark here for me. Several of these versions are pretty good - good enough for me at least. I went with MMC as at the time it was them BC or TW and they were the clear winner for me. FT and XTB are a little bit better but not really enough to bother upgrading at this time. Hoist however is the biggie!! Neither MMC nor BC are anything close to his squat dumpy toon proportions. TW kind of get's Hoist's awkward look a bit, but that honestly seems more because it's a bad, awkward design rather than them actually deliberately nailing the Hoist look. XTB's looks great and is my current front runner. FT may produce something interesting, if they can resist their constant urge to make everything look more buff and heroic - Hoist is not supposed to be ripped, and neither is Seaspray. Takara I think will be the nystery bet in the Hoist race and could really go either way. On the one had they are going full speed ahead into the slavish toon design. Based solely on that they should easily nail Hoist's look. But at the same time, Takara are also way more prolifically dedicated to the idea of remould's and getting re-use out of any design they can. I am honestly skeptical that Takara can do a truly toon accurate Trailbreaker and then do a cost effective remould into a toon accurate Hoist. Their dimensions, proportions and so many of their design cue's are so different. For me that's where BC and MMC both failed miserably with their Hoist design - by trying to remould TB and avoid too many changes. XTB did new forearms and head, and it looks like everything from the waist down is new. But Keith seems far more willing than Takara to spend money on these kind of design and individualization choices. And that's the extent you have to go to with TB/Hoist. Will Takara be willing to invest that much into changing the TB mould into a unique Hoist?
I like BC's because it's got that mix of almost toon but almost toy I want. I know he isn't dead on toon accurate but I just can't shake that image in my head of him looking kind of "dumpy" looking like BC's does. That's how Trailbreaker looked in my minds eye. That said, I'm curious to see FT's and maybe TT's down the road but I would be good now with the choice I made if those never happened.
