It seems, like the MP10 and the new MP Sideswipe are meshing well in the CHUG lineup. Is this officially a trend for the future? I am curious if takara / hasbro has ever officially stated this?

Forgive me if I missed any prior announcements or threads.

I...don't see it at all. MPs are still a lot larger than CHUG. MPs are trying to be in scale with themselves now but I don't think it's becoming CHUG scale.

Agreed, yes, you'll be able to blur the lines a little [or a lot, if you're not picky] but I suspect the Classics will remain the Classics [or whatever it's called now] and the MPs will remain MPs.

Sure they are totally merging... If you think that Voyager scale cars are 'chug' along with a vast difference in quality.

Christ, I don't get why some people want to merge everything into one line... especially one so utterly opposed as to what Masterpiece is.

Hahaha yeah. To me different lines don't mix well with one another. I'm not a fan of how MPs and 3rd party figures look with Classics. They just stick out like a sore thumb.

I hate Shoehorning too....but Hasbro and Takara have been doing it themselves, so i can't entirely blame people for following suit.

I don't see it either. But I would love a simplified version of MP10 and Hot Rod as Generations toys :D

It really depends on what's being shoe-horned, honestly. Personally, I have no gripe about using Alert among my Classics only because I skipped him (stupidly, over HFTD Ironhide no less) and it's mostly him being presented in Bot mode anyway (so any size discrepancy can be explained away by his rank, or the fact that scale is a grey area since goddamn G1.) And plenty of people have no issue using Optimus, or filling in the blanks one way or another.

In the end, it's not as if anyone has business dictating what should or shouldn't be in anyone else's collection. Opinions are fine though.

That said, I really don't think the scale is blurring so much as now you're starting to see them present figures smaller in relative size to one another. Or rather, that is how they scale Sideswipe among the Masterpiece figures.

Classic Sideswipe and Red Alert are too big to even be in the classics line, so I don't see how MP Sideswipe and Red Alert can even begin to look right with classics.

I don't see it either, MP's are MP's, classics are classics...

Now I can see shoe Horning in a figure here and there, but now that I have the new Generation scouts, at least brawl and sandstorm? don't look like they fit, laserbeak and deadend fit in nicely though.. I also have prime bulkhead in with my classics and he fits close enough but not quite right...

so basically, I don't see putting 2 different lines together. A figure here or there but, SS and OP don't belong in the classics line, to me..

I shoehorn classics into the Maserpiece collection. I would like the 84 lineup in masterpiece but Im not going to get it. mostly because ( and im going out on a limb but im pretty sure) Takara and Hasbro wont finish the lineup in masterpiece, not in my lifetime anyhow*. So i have CHUG characters holding spots while i collect the Masterpieces that will be made. Also the 85 lineup is many new characters that I like to have but dont want a masterpiece of for costs sake. So the added characters for the 85 line are CHUG. the Masterpieces are 1 head to 1.5 heads taller than CHUG so I dont think they look to off. and In the end it is up to personal preference.

    * my only hope is that 3rd partys help this along.

it took me a while but here is a pic so tell me what you think about it looking out of place, and yeah I know the custom soundwave is out of place on the 2nd shelf, but look at the top one. BTW the mirror makes the collection look nice but good pictures are difficult to do with it.

I hope 3rd parties continue to make stuff to complement the newer direction that Takara are taking with the Masterpiece line. iGear are leading the way with their Mini Warriors and PP05, I'm hoping they and others produce more G1 characters with the same sense of accuracy to the original designs.

By comparison most CHUGFormers look pretty bad, even obsolete in some cases.

i think some of them look pretty good in a mixed collection i think the seekers can pass as classics figures mp-10 is kinda iffy but still passable

sideswipes asthetic just isnt there for a classics figure though hes too .... g1 i guess

classics figures are heavy on mechanical detail which largly is absent with mp-12 im not compaining the figure looks amazing as a masterpiece figure and i think we will see a lot of figures like him to create a mp collection that will outclass a classics collection if you are someone who wants only one or the other.

MP Grimlock fits perfectly with CHUG scale. If you have iGear's PP01 Faith Leader as your Optimus Prime, all the better. MP-12/14 I'm not certain as I don't have them in hand yet. The Seeker molds fit relatively well with CHUG too if you subscribe to the idea that the Cons are generally larger (and better armed) than the Bots (who have strength in numbers along with cooperation, rather than the Cons' infighting and backstabbing).

As for Classics Swipes/Alert, not sure how they're too big. They look fine to me height-wise in a CHUG display. The Lambo twins are generally depicted as being among the taller of the Bots, shorter only to the usual suspects (Ironhide, Ratchet, Grapple, Inferno, Jet/Skyfire, Hoist/Trailbreaker, Optimus, etc.). That and Lambo Contauchs are very big sports cars, much bigger/wider than most people expect. Big alt mode = big bot mode. Red Alert is generally depicted as being shorter than Swipes though.

Actually, it's the opposite of that. The Countach is about the same length as an old VW Beetle. I didn't know that either until TFINO's resident scale junkie was talking about it.

What about width? They always struck me as being very wide cars. That and the Lambo twins have a bit of the Lockdown syndrome, where they have compact alt modes but tall bot modes.

I disagree, but then again, I'm really cool with my classics being mostly Deluxe size. Heck, my classics Optimus is deluxe size, lol. Yeah, things don't go together perfectly, but I don't mind.

As to shorhorning, well us collectors got to work with what Hasbro has given us. That means taking things from lines like FoC and GDO to fill in character holes. And to me that works a heck of a lot better than mixing in the new MP line.

My MP line is a shelf unto itself. And what a shelf it is (though super small.)
