I've seen a few threads pop up recently talking about how this person's MP Rodimus broke and that person's MP Roddy shattered a knee. I've been tempted to pick mine up recently and fiddle with it, but I wonder: is this thing guaranteed to break with any usage? Is it really just a blown kneecap waiting to happen? Are there any ways to protect against the most typical breaks?

It's probably the figure I own that I'm most scared of.

It's very random, and it's not just the knees but the shoulders also. Some break during handling, some break on their own, some don't break at all. My TRU version just broke at the shoulder a few weeks back. I had it since it was first released, transformed several times with no problems. Put it on my shelf in bot mode almost two years ago where it stood completely untouched and then one night the left arm just fell off on its own because the plastic around the shoulder joint had split.

It's a heartbreaking figure for me, because it was my #1 most anticipated MP at the time, it's absolutely beautiful, but I have no desire to ever handle one again. Rodimus is now my #1 most wanted MP redux. :/

The problems with knees and shoulders breaking are confined (I think) to the Hasbro (TRU) version and the MP-09b black version. As far as I know, neither the Takara v1 or v2 regular Rodimus Prime has any of these breakage issues. It does have other issues you need to be careful with: on v1, be careful with the panels on the insides of the legs (they were redesigned to pop off on v2), and on v2, be careful of the hinge used to open the cockpit, as that is prone to stress marks and cracks (which you can see on the back of the hinge behind the head in robot mode).

I've transformed and posed and generally messed around with both my v1 and v2 Rodimus figures and have never had a problem, though (aside from the stress mark behind the hinge on the v2 version). My v1 has the floppy chest, hands that don't hold the guns and I had to fix the hinges on the feet, but none of those are breakages.

Despite all of the above, he's one of my favourite figures both to look at and handle. As I say, though, I have heard horror stories with the TRU and MP-09b versions, but having owned neither someone else would have to say if it's one of those you own.

Hasbro for me. Honestly, he just got scarier now that I hear about this shoulder thing!

The shoulder thing is real! I had my Hasbro version in the box for a couple of years. Finally decided to take it out of the box a few months ago. As soon as I lifted it out of the inner tray, the right arm fell out.

Even if you never take it out of the box, I suspect the tension in the spring could eventually pop the fragile plastic that is connecting the shoulder to the body.

The knees on mine were fine, but I had to take a screw-driver to loosen them up, otherwise they would snap.

Also, the backpack refuses to tab in properly. He looks great from the front, and awful from the side.

It's just scary trying to pose this guy.

I was thrilled when I heard MP-09 was announced, but over the years, I can't decide whether I hate this mold or the MP-03 seeker mold more.

The breakage is true but it depends on your luck. I own the Takara v1, have transformed him a lot of times and still haven't broken on me til this day.

I got hasbro, one arm (the right) broke off. It was easy to fix and he is now my favourite masterpiece figure. Not had any other isuues, and my 3 year old son has rough housed it a few times too.

I have a Takara v1 and it hasn't broken yet. When Hasbro released Rodimus, I picked one up and it's arm was broken right out of the package. I hope Takara reissues Rodimus sometime.

Tak V1: both shoulders broke during transformation (the first time since GPS riddled TM1 Beast Megs this has happened so it wasn't ham-hands.....) and the left knee gave out on my shelf. I don't have the skills to rebuild these parts so he's just glued like a statue. Various loose panels and the hands are fucking useless.

Hasbro: right ankle exploded out of the box. Literally exploded with the spring shooting the foot across my room. Replaced it with the last one in TRU and the same happened again. So that got glued. Both shoulders also went while on shelf duty. Fucking hopeless figure. If a Third-party had been responsible for it their name would be held as the benchmark of awfulness. As it's Hasbro it gets kind of glossed over in the general " I'm so happy to get an MP!" Miasma that effects most of us.

I second the desire for a complete new MP Hot Rod sized to MP12. Please.......

would never transform mine paid too much for takara rodimus for it to break on me , don't think i would attempt mp09b either but saying that from all the horror story's i heard about mp05 being really hard to transform and breaks easy i found neither a problem when i finally plucked up the courage it took me between 15 and 20 mins to transform and that's with a cig break and also didn't feel like it would break at any time lol

back to mp09 if your a serious mp collector and don't mind it just being a display piece i would buy it if i were you , if you don't mind paying the big price v2 is the one to go for :)

Knocking on wood, I have the Takara V1, and the TRU, neither have had the breakage and I've transformed them both several times in the years I've had them. Guess I got lucky as I got like the first wave of TRU Rodimus. I actually have the news credit for the first sighting. Only problems I ever had were the Takara V1 well documented spring in foot, leg panels, and spoiler rub. All of those were easily remedied. I would be completely heart broken if my Roddy's arm fell off. :thumbdown

I have the Hasbro version and - knocks on wood - so far so good. I've transformed it a few times, taken it apart to be painted, put it back together and it's still standing. I even pose it on the top shelf of my display case, Matrix held high, and no problems to speak of. I don't baby the thing, but I am careful with it.

+1, almost exactly the same story.

The only difference was that I had mine in Alt mode for 2 years and the side of the car (his arm) just fell off when I pulled him out of the box I was storing him in. The plastic on my shoulder split in 2 places.

On mine a very small tab underneath the frontbumper broke... Haven't gotten around to glueing it back yet... I also don't really know when it broke. I have him in the original box most of the time, and every now and then I get him out. But one time the part was just loose in the box...

I don't know about the other MP's, but that put me really of about getting more of them. Despite wanting Grimlock and Soundwave really bad.

I re-pose my v1 MP-09 constantly. No problems so far. Quite possibly the prettiest MP.
