I searched but couldn't find a thread on this. Can someone explain if there are any differences, or point me to the appropriate thread that I'm too stoopid to find   ? Thanks.

 

Other than paint apps and accessories, nothing really.

 

Very similar in basis...
Hasbro has a crown, some extra stickers and rounded teeth and claws.
TakTom has sharp teeth and claws, no crown but a bunch of weird accessories, like an apron, serving dish with drink and mind transfer helmet.

Hasbro is cheaper and a better value.

 

The duller teeth/claws really aren't that noticable. They look fine. Don't know what the appeal is of them being just a little sharper. What are people doing with these things?

 

I think the Habro version looks better with the extra paint apps.

If you can find it for retail, i'd say get Hasbro Grimlock. If your thinking of paying ebay prices (100+), go with the Takara Version. I brought the Takara version months ago cheap and I do prefer it because of all the accessories.

 

I prefer the Takara version with the accessories.

The paint apps on the Hasbro one are nice minus the white on the arms.

 

I have both and I can say that personally I like the Takara version more.

-I prefer the bare legs in Dinomode (no red stripes).
-The toes in Dinomode are nicer than Hasbro.
-The waiter set and transfer helmet are much cooler than the crown.
-Joints are tighter in the Takara version.
-The Takara one came out like a year and a half ago.

 

Quick question about the Takara version - are his toes chromed or painted? The US version is just gold paint of course, but it seems like it is actual chrome in the Takara version. Can somebody confirm? Thanks

 

It is neither really. It is kind of chromed, but not super intense chromed if that makes sense, it looks more like it is stained. The color is much closer to the color of the chest though where as the Hasbro one just looks like paint.

 

I haven't seen Hasbro in person yet, to give the differences I don't know any that haven't been stated already.

Wow, thanks for the info. Ive had the takara version since it came out. I found a tru version for the 2nd time this weekend and i bought it. Trying to decide if I should sell/ return since I don't have too much extra to spend these days.

 

If you already have the Takara version, I'd say just return the Hasbro one.

I bought the Hasbro one as well while I already bought the Takara so long ago.

I brought it home, looked at it and thought about it then returned it.

 

I have both and opened them. No real reason for the Hasbro if you already have the Takara, and only want one. I wanted two, so the Hasbro is an awesome cheap second. They are a tie in my opinion.

 

I have both, I like the Takara better, I like the ubscure props that were used from the two season 3 episodes.

 

I have both. I like the takara more and keep that one in dino mode since it has the cooler teeth and claws. But for someone who does not have either one, i would recomend hasbro since it is cheaper and the differences are subtle

 

I have the Hasbro version, but I've seen both. The differences are subtle enough to me that it kind of comes down to the accessories - and though Takara's has more, I prefer just having the crown. Not really a fan of comedy relief only Grimlock in season three, so the apron and tray has no appeal for me. The helmet is nice, but I like the crown. And with the price being better, I'd pick Hasbro.

I'm planning on getting a second MP Grimlock to display in Dino mode, since I have mine in robot mode all the time, and it'll be the Hasbro version.

 

As the dino-toes (and shoulder bits) are metal, I think the Takara version just puts a clear yellow tint on the parts, with the shine coming from the metal itself.

 

I have both, but the extra accessories and tighter joints make the Takara one better IMO.

 

I also have both and IMO the Takara version is better for tighter joints. My Hasbro Grimlock finds it hard to stand correctly in dino and robot mode due to loose hips and loose elbows. The blunted claws and teeth are not too noticeable. The accessories from Takara are well worth the extra $$, I just wish they had put a hole somewhere in the dino mode so he could carry his gun.
