Is Masterpiece Grimlock in scale with Alternators? I'm not talking robot mode, as that is all subjective, but in alt mode. I'm not very good eyeballing sizes so would that be how big a T-rex is? Yoknow, when you hunch him over properly.

None of the Dinobots were the actual size of the dinosaurs they were based on in the show or comics, so I have no idea how you'd even figure out their scale.

I mean the scale of an actual Tyrannosaurus. (Yes I realize that Grimlock is not an overly accurate T-Rex)

No, he's not in scale with alternators in alt. mode. No where near. Alts are too big.

Based on the size of a T-Rex he's about in scale with MP-01 and the Alts.

I love this info: How tall are Transformers REALLY? - alt.toys.transformers | Google Groups

It's a list of the heights of various transformers based on their alt modes.

    Here's the good bit:

    G1 Optimus Prime - 32'8"
G1 Grimlock (from dino height at legs) - 25'9"
    Sunstreaker - 16'1"

So if Prime is twice the height of the G1 cars (a la MP-01 and Alts) Grimlock should sit somewhere in the middle height wise. MP-08 does just this.

Fine, but in ALL the fiction, Grimlock is clearly taller and wider than Op Prime.

But worrying about scale in Transformers can lead to your brain melting, just buy the ones you like. If something isn't in scale with something else, put it on a different shelf.

I personally think he's scaled most correctly with classics deluxes and igear's faith leader. That's how big he was in my head. That's the problem with Grimlock, I guess. He was rarely drawn too consistently and I flat out just don't know how big a T-Rex is.

But the real reason I'm responding is to give you love on the your user name/avatar. Not enough of us Aardvark fans around.

I read the link you posted and while it's a cool idea, they used the toys and real life counterparts to get their numbers. Toy scale, and proportions were things that weren't even thought about back in the G1 days and in my opinion skew those numbers.

Doubly agreed. Grimlock was generally shown to be a head taller than Prime on the G1 cartoon and the MP Grimlock mold does this well (in both bot and dino modes) with iGear's PP01 Faith Leader.

The Classic Deluxes tend to be smaller and closer to 1:32 scale and look decent enough displayed with MP Grimlock and Faith Leader (that's how I have mine set up). Since Alt/BTs are 1:24 scale, they might be too big compared to MP Grimlock for it to look right.

Doesn't Grimlock already have an Alt/BT mold though, a Ford Mustang GT that he shares with Wheeljack?
