couldn't find this using the search bar so i thought i'd start a thread. Since version 2 rodimus just came out and people now know all the changes i can't decide which one to get, I can only get one at the moment and was wondering which one and don't put price as a factor for choosing grimlock

I like Rodimus but prefer Grimlock. Great figure.

Both are fantastic - there is no wrong answer to this question.

V2 Rodimus will be more scarce in the longer term, I think.

Aside from that...now they've ironed almost all the issues out I just prefer rodimus so much more.

My V2 hasn't arrived yet, but I would get him for sure. Looking at comparisons with TRU Roddy, it's a no brainer to go for the Takara release if you can afford it. That said, I have both.
TRU Grimlock is still abundant and cheap, so you can get him any time for a decent price.

I think you should get both of them to be honest.

I would say Grimlock. Rodimus is a great figure, but a bit fiddly and still stupid hard to transform. Grimlock is, well, Grimlock. Grimlock KING. Rodimus is a highly improved version of the original figure, with the added complexity that goes with it. Grimlock is pretty much the G1 figure, but with perfect articulation, amazing posability, no gimmicky features, and a simple and intuitive transformation. If you have Leader Ironhide, it's the same kind of transformation. Great, accurate, but not so complicated that you still have to reference the instructions the 10th time. Rodimus is like ROTF Leader Prime: Looks amazing in both modes, but once you get him into one or the other, you'll leave him because of how hard he is to transform.

As the majority says Grimlock, and if you could swing for it get the Takara MP Grimlock,he is even better than Hasbro's,as there's no safety restraints with Takara's,meaning Grimmy's teeth and hand claws are sharp as he**. Also I heard Hasbro's the gold chrome is not as shiny. Finally MP Rodimus/Hot Rod is nice he is worth waiting for until you get more money, but Grimlock is the one I would get if I were you.

...although i think Hasbro resolved the issues with screws inside the legs potentially scratching the chrome on the tail.

I have all versions of each, and I would say V2 Rodimus.

Yeah, I vote for v2 Rodimus also! I just wished TakaraTomy got him right the first time.

If you like to transform the figure and want a sturdy figure, choose Grimlock.

I'd say go for both if you can. The Hasbro versions are pretty nice, and cheaper.

Maybe Hasbro Grimlock + Takara Rodimus v2?

Agreed that Grimlock is a better figure for handling (in terms of stability/overall quality) than Rodimus. Rodimus looks great (Takara version) but is fiddly and feels less durable.

Have to disagree on one point though; Grimlock has several of the most annoying gimmicky features of any Masterpiece. One hand is a solid fist with no articulation for a start. And then there's the silly waggling dino-head thing. Apart from that, and him being a tad smaller than I would like, he's a near perfect example of what a Masterpiece should be.

To reiterate: You've pretty much already resolved to get both, so get the one that's going to have shorter distribution first.

I'm not sure what a video could tell you about fixes that hasn't been documented in the feedback forum already?

Not a dedicated one, but it was appended to the original MP Rodimus feedback thread.
