I always hated dropping the hips, just didn't seem like it was designed well, and I saw a couple of cases where people had broken the hip/leg off

It still boggles my mind how it's priced so affordably for an MP. I remember everyone claiming that the MP stand and MP minifigs would rack the price up for stuff like Optimus, Hound, Starscream. Jetfire has all the good accessories, is twice the height of those guys, and yet somehow manages to keep itself priced at $300.[IMG]

Parts count. That’s literally the reason for the prices. Skyfire is large but it has about half the parts of even an MP like Sunstreaker. Also no licensing for the alt mode.

This, why you guys are saying that SF is smaller than it should be?

Honestly this is complete BS. Aside from like two very vocal TT "White Knights" around here, most people who only collect TT don't even care enough about what 3P are doing to rake any effort over any damn coals. And it's the complete opposite from the 3P only crowd.

I'm just glad he's not as small as Star Saber, which is what I feared when they first indicated that Skyfire would be coming. A lot of people assumed that Star Saber was Takara's size limit, since he was so undersized. Can you imagine the kinds of arguments we'd get if people had to choose between Phoenix and a Star Saber-sized yet toon accurate MP-57? At least now we're just losing about half a head in height in exchange for that toon accuracy.

I have to say, one of the most objective and exaustive review until now.

I tried fixing him up (2016) - 3D printed head and thigh gap fillers:

But I think it never really was aimed at MP segment - more like Generations Siege Jetfire, certainly with it only being shy of 10inch.

So my initial thoughts after spending some good time with him: Trailbreaker is better than Skyfire as an MP. Skyfire also has limited articulation despite what the advertisements want to make you think (thigh swivel isn’t enough and the waist swivel isn’t there for the sake of the Toon design/accuracy). The chest and arms do not tab in securely and the alt mode has more gaps than I expected. I now see from a comparison pic why Skyfire wasn’t as Toon accurate in the face as I had hoped for. He also cannot hold his gun with the blast effects with one hand. The arm is not stable enough.

Materials feel very sturdy and you won’t feel like you’re afraid to transform him. Transformation is solid from vehicle to bot. But not the reverse, getting the arms back in the backpack is confusing and cumbersome. Still makes a fine Skyfire and is perhaps in the eyes of many like myself, the Jetfire we always wanted as kids. You can still get some great poses by playing around. The most important part, QC is solid without anything breaking. So that’s a huge plus in my book. I would recommend it wholeheartedly. So enjoy your Skyfire.

You have to press really firmly. Mine kept untabbing when I was struggling to get the right chest piece to connect (which was a swine) but one I was sure everything was in position I've pressed in really firmly and you could feel them connect better (especially the one connected to the chest, actually).

I've just tried grabbing both arms and pulling them apart (not roughly, but with enough that if it were loose it'd unpeg) and it stayed together, including the chest that I'd had issues with.

Haven't tried the blast effects but i agree the elbows are butter smooth so it might easily be too much.

That’s with everything properly locked and hearing that “thoomp” as Emgo calls it. It doesn’t seem like my copy is the only one. But even if it doesn’t tab secure, I still like how he looks. At the moment, everything is fully tabbed in. I won’t press too firmly as to not wear out the tabs.

Oh no, I love toon accuracy, I guess I just worded the statement below wrongly, it's articulation that I don't care much for, hell, frankly I was satisfied with what car bots were doing up until MP-27, Hot rod when they introduced ab crunch, a testament to this is that Phoenix and MP-22 are some of my favourite robots and the seekers lack of waist articulation doesn't or didn't bother me as well. A lot of the things I don't enjoy about it weren't that obvious in the rehearsed videos, for obvious reasons. But like I said many times in the review it's a good but not a great figure.

I fail to see where you're coming from, the gaps are right on top of the alt-mode how are they not visible, it's not like they're underneath him or behind him or to the side of him in robot mode? If they don't bother you, that's a different matter but not noticeable is a completely different matter altogether.
